6.5 Grendel gasser to 22 ARC

I have a 6.5 Grendel I’ve used for coyotes / deer hunting. Shot very little of both. Did ok. I have prolly 8 boxes of ammo sitting in a cabinet. I don’t shoot this a lot. I do shoot a lot of 223 for wood chucks. I came across 22 ARC having come out of the cave I’ve been living in ;). Holy smokes. Comparing drops with my 223 and 22 Arc has me thinking of pulling the Grendel barrel and selling the ammo. This is my second Grendel rifle. I’m not in love or feel hatred. I just hate having something collecting dust. I’ve watched the Social Regressive YouTube video and the Outdoor life moose hunt - which got me on this path after hearing Tyler on the MeatEater podcast. A couple of questions:

- Ballistic Advantage and Shaw are on sale on Midway. I read hit and miss on both more older misses on quality with BA but never reviews seem to like them. What’s the consensus on BA and Shaw.
- I had a Odin barrel in my first Grendel and wasn’t overly impressed.
- I don’t see much on CMMG and Faxon. Any expierences?

Any don’t do this advance from your builds of this caliber?

Looking to have a fun plinker, crop damage permit doe eater, wood chucks exploderer..

What I find is that you’ll have to find a jump tolerant bullet because the free bore is so long that to magazine feed you can’t get close to the lands of a SAAMI 22ARC chamber. Hornady ELD bullets except for the 73 grain are secant ogive and like to be up in the lands. I’ve got a 22ARC and I have to single feed the hornady bullets to get accuracy.

I have a 22 arc, I use starline 6.5 grendle brass.

I mainly shoot steel with it with 80 grain bullets though I do want to try some 69SMK’s.

It’s quite fun from 400 to 1000 yards.
Definitely would be a critter hammer.
I cut my own barrel but I think the BA or Shaw barrels would be my first choices for cheaper options as I’ve seen a few good shooters come from them with no stinkers that I remember.

It’s a good bit flatter and wind resistant than my previous 223.

I have not gone down the 22ARC route, but have multiples of 6.5 Grendel and 6ARC so take that FWIW.

With one exception, every 6ARC and 6.5 Grendel (6 of mine currently and a couple for my son) has been built with upper tier barrels and bolts. All shoot very well (3/4 MOA and better) as should be expected with good parts.

If you are trying to stay within a specific budget, the barrels you mentioned can be understood. If you want the best chance at being "overly impressed", start with better parts. You may pull a rabbit out of a hat with a less expensive barrel, but that is what it will be (a rabbit out of a hat). That may not be a 100% accurate statement, but I will stand on it from my experiences.

An accurate AR is not really different than an accurate boltgun. Good parts assembled correctly will give you an accurate rifle the majority of the time. Of course there is more to it, but you start off with a good product. There is the addition of time to source all of the parts thrown in the mix though.
