6.5 Grendel bullets?

hi guys,

I'm just trying to get some answers for a friend. He wants to know how accurate the 140-142 grain bullets are and what's working best for 6.5 Grendel shooters?

thanks

Don't know what twist he has,but my Friends AR is a 8.5 twist and it loves 115-130gr weight range. The 140-142s are too long/ hvy. for it

The heaviest bullets for the 6.5 Grendel are in the 129-130 grain weights. I've used both,129 Norma & 130 JLK) for 1000 yard shooting in an AR-based long-range rifle,28" 1:8 Walther-barreled) and an LR bolt gun,30" 1:8 Broughton 5C).

You give up about 1 MOA to windage against a 6.5-284 shooting the same bullet as you lose about 200 fps to the larger cartridge.

The 6.5 Grendel can effectively use just about anything between very light bullets and those in the 119-120 grain range. I think most common are 100 - 105 grain for target shooting out to 600 yards, up to 120 grain for hunting out to maybe 300 yards or so.

Forget the Sierra 142's out of a Grendel, way too big a bullet for the size of the case, like trying to pull a big horse trailer around with a small 4 cylinder engine in a car - you can do it but it's ugly).

I found the Lapua 123's were about the best long range bullet to run out of an AR-15 6.5 Grendel. I felt the 130's were even a bit big and heavy for the case, but the 123's have a good B.C.,.547) and I could get the velocity up with them in addition to retaining good accuracy.

I cannot see any way you lose only 200fps when going from 6.5-284 to 6.5 Grendel. More like 600fps?

My 260Rem falls 200fps short of 6.5-284, no matter how hard I'm on the brass...

i agree on the 123 being the max but I really like the 100 Scenar in a 10 twist.
I heard a rumor that Lothar Walther had about 400 6.5 barrels finished on the shelf.
