6.5 CREEDMOR

THOUGHTS ON NOSLER BRASS IN 6.5 CREEDMOR ANYONE USEING IT HAVE PROBLEM WITH HORNADY BRASS SPLITING.

THANKS STACY

CASE HEAD SEPERATNG IN TWO DIFFERENT RIFLES SAME LOT OF BRASS HORNADY AFTER 3RD AND 4TH FIRING ON CUSTOM RIFLE AND ONE SAVAGE

I've been running Hornady brass since I started with the Creedmoor (5 years now) and haven't split one or had a separation yet (I anneal every firing though). The brass is from that time frame however. The main complaints on Hornady Creedmoor brass is the primer pockets. I really haven't lost too many from the primer pockets loosening either. Some have at least 7 reloads on them, and I run them pretty warm (2850 with 140 Hybrid's).

Maybe I misunderstood, but are you firing your reloads from multiple rifles with different chambers (6.5 Creedmoor of course)? The only time I do that is when I had chambers cut with the same reamer and then I still measure the brass carefully when that barrel is new (I suspect highly you already know that, just mentioning it).

I just haven't found Hornady brass to be as bad as some others. I have made Creedmoor brass from Lapua Palma brass and it is tough as it is reputed to be (but a large investment in time). This is just my experience as you are obviously having problems with the Hornady brass.

That's a negative on experience with Nosler brass. I also understand that Norma makes Creedmoor brass.

Can't say I am a fan of Hornady brass but case head separation is usually caused by bumping cases too short or perhaps as DHD pointed out correctly due to shooting the same brass out of two different chambers.

Yup...check that you are not bumping those shoulders back too much. I did that accidentally (0.005-0.007" shoulder bump) and was getting case head separation.

I made sure it is about 0.0015-0.002" bump and case head separation went away. I scrapped the brass that I knew I bumped the shoulders too much on. 80-100 pieces of brass scrapped.

I get a split neck here and there with hornady brass, but it is usually because it went through multiple firings without annealing.

Primer pockets, never had that much of an issue with them. I was getting about 8-12 firings on them.

THANKS GUYS IM CHECKING MY SHOULDER BUMP NOW BUT I DONT SHOOT BRASS IN DIFFERENT RIFLES I'M GOING TO ANNEAL IT AGAIN I ORDERED 2 BOXS OF BRASS

I agree with you guys. Over sizing the brass. Been there done that. It sucks when you do it to once fired Lapua brass......

0.012" :o Holy smokes. You practically made it into a new cartridge :-[

Hope you didn't do a whole batch like I did...

A Wilson case gage is wonderful tool for the loading bench. That gage and a dial caliper, with a set of Redding Competition Shellholders, are great tools for headspace control.

To answer your original question, I have tried Nosler brass, and it is as good as Hornady, but no better and more expensive. The added prep and weight sorting is nice, however.
