6.5 creedmoor?

So I was in the market for a 25-06 and was looking at the Tikka model but it only comes in a 22" barrel so I started looking at the weatherby vanguard s2 since it has a 24" barrel.
Then people started suggesting 6.5 creedmoor for a more versatile round. So I'm wondering who makes a decent rifle in that caliber ? I've been looking at the Savage brand. Trying to stick with a minimum 24" barrel 8 twist and would like to stay under 7.5 lbs
Rifle will be used for predator and deer hunting
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I rebarrreled a Savage Axis with a savage factory 6.5 Creedmoor barrel off a model 11. It's nice, but the Boyd's stock it's in is freaking heavy! Gunna restock it, more than likely with a McMillan Stock.

It's a 1 MOA rifle currently with factory ammo. Starting to reload for it and hoping to get tighter groups.

Heck, I may be interested in selling it... It seems to fit your bill perfectly except the weight currently.
24", 1-8" twist.

As far as the cartridge. Having the factory barrel in .308 and having shot it before rebarreling. The 6.5 is a nice shooter. Less recoil, great accuracy. Can neck down 308 cases to load as 6.5CM. It's just all around better than .308 in my opinion. 140 grain bullets it is certainly a good deer gun, coyotes beware!

i recently upgraded a 22-250 to 6.5 creedmoor, and love it by far the best thing i have done. Now for factory gun the 2 off the top of my head are savage and ruger precision rifle. My self i would opt for the savage. And if your not looking for one of there heavy barrels, i would do like blckwlf said and get a cheap axis and upgrade the barrel to which ever gets you going. I have talked to a few guys that have upgraded the axis to aftermarket barrels,... they might not exactly compete with target guns.. but id be willing to bet that after a after market barrel and some reloading, it will shoot lights out...

I'll look into the swede tikka model and hopefully my local bass pro can order it but I've seen several post about it no longer being distributed in the u.s.

The 6.5 CM has gained a lot of popularity in the last few years. It came out in 2007 and longrange shooter pick it quickly. Accurate to past 1000yds, easy to reload or you can pick up quality ammo off the store shelves. It now becoming popular as a semi auto round.

There is a good selection of bullets for precision shooting and hunting. Hornady and Berger make several bullets to fit your requirements. Personally I shoot it in a rebarreled R700 and an LMT LR8MWS, both capable of shooting 1/2 moa or better. If you don't reload you can easily sell your once fired brass on most forums. With quality factory ammo available a lot of guys don't bother reloading and simply sell their brass to offset the cost of factory ammo.

Sry I'm new n just saw your post , I have a 6.5 creedmoor ruger precision rifle and I love love love it. Amazing caliber easy to reload. Awesome gun and caliber. I'd take it over 25 06 any day and over 308. Shot alot of rounds thru it. I put vortex 6x24x50 scope on it with dnz one piece mount. Super comp titanium muzzle break. And aftermarket titanium bolt shroud. And bipod an monopod. I also bought accurate mag by ruger so I can load to Lanz of riffle. I also buy lapua 260 rem brass and cut it then size to 6.5 creedmoor. It's very easy and I shot it out to 1775yards accurately it bucks wind very well. Very accurate rifle out the box. But hey Goodluck I'm sure you'll love which ever rifle you buy in 6.5 creedmoor. I highly recommend it.

I have a savage 16 weather warrior in 260rem and love it. it's my go to deer gun, pull the trigger and there will be venison in the freezer! also have a ruger Hawkeye predator in 6.5 cm. haven't hunted with it yet. it's a beautiful rifle but heavier than the savage. any of the 6.5's are in the sweet spot for all around use with good bullet selection for varmints to deer. the 260 is easy to make brass for if you reload, I necked up 243's with no trouble just by running them through a FL 260 die. hope this helps

Adding this very late, but I too love the round. I have a Ruger Precision and am debating picking up one of the Ruger Predator models to hunt with. I've seen several of them and they all seem to shoot very well, especially at $400.

Some of my fellow range members have a 6.5 Creedmore rifle. Some have rifles rebarreled to the creedmore and some have a Ruger Precision in it. These gents are happy with theirs.

A fellow range member I shoot with, gave a Howa barreled action (for a rebarrel job) to another member who'd bought a nice metal lathe not that long ago. His early work on rebarreling/gun smithing has been quite good. I have a Howa in 243 that I seldom shoot. Also have a Shaw barrel chambered in 6.5x55 Swede that I'd taken off a Savage/Stevens 200 rifle a year or so ago. The Shaw barrel shot decently for accuracy and it had lots of life left in its bore. Long story short....my Howa 243 is presently with the range member with the metal lathe. He will rechamber my Swede barrel to a 6.5 Creedmore and use a barrel nut to install it in the Howa Action. Yea, this is an experiment, but I will have a 6.5 Creedmore rifle in a couple of weeks.

All very true IMHO. Availability is the only problem. I had one ordered (Ruger 6.5 Precision) but backed away from it because I shoot strictly 100 yds anymore and the 6.5 Ruger is a long distance winner. But the rifle is very popular IF long distance is your thing. And I wouldn't even consider a Tikka or a Howa as being in the same ballpark, either accuracy or quality wise. But that's me and I do not mean to offend Tikka or Howa lovers.
