6.5 creedmoor ?

I'm thinking about using a 6.5cm fo f class. I've done some searching and have found that about 2700-2750 fps is the norm with 140 grain bullets and most of that was with 26" barrels. So I'm wondering what people are getting for velocities with the line barrels, 28 plus inches? Thanks in advance

Have you researched the articles on the creedmore to see if that has the imfo you are looking for yet? I would also google the cartridge and refine till you get barrel length velocitys with extreme lengths.

I just looked for you and it appears the 26 incher is best since you wont be using a silencer. It was originally developed from what I read around a 28 inch barrel. The 26 inch developed 2800 plus easily meaning you should get that or maybe better.

Yeah, I have read some articles. I read the article 260 vs 6.5x 47 vs 6.5 creedmoor and that was the only one with a barrel 28 inches. I was wondering how much more I would get with a 30 inch barrel. What length Is everyone else using?

140 VLD, 26" barrel using Reloader 17.

I got the following results:
41.0 2850 fps avg
41.5 2880 fps avg
42.0 Low 2900's
42.5 Mid 2900's

Will test more this spring. 42 & 42.5 if I remember correctly was starting to get a sticky bolt

I wonder if Savage would chamber one of their Model 12 rifles in 6.5CM (F-Class, F/TR, etc)? It appears that the 6.5 bullets have an impressive B.C., low barrel wear, and low recoil.

Bucksnort, Savage already chambers a model 12 in 6.5 creedmoor. The Model 12 LRP (long range precision). Has a 26" heavy fluted barrel, and a DBM.

I have two 6.5 Creedmoors: 26" bl. and 28" bl. The difference in velocity that I get between them is 55 feet per sec. per inch. So, it is quite significant. Now, there probably is some variation due to the fact that one barrel is a Pac Nor and the other is a Shilen, but this should put you in the ball park. For the same make and style of barrel, 55fps per inch is a good rule in the 6.5 CM.

Thanks for the info. I would like to get close to 2900fps if not over with 140's. From what I'm gathering I think that might be possible with a barrel 28" to 30". One of my concerns is if there is enough gains over a 6brx with 105's. If they were close enough I would go with a BRX for the less recoil, cost of reloading and barrel life too I assume.

The 6.5 Creedmoor looks an increasingly good choice in many disciplines for those who like the smaller cased 6.5s or need magazine operation in a short action for tactical or sniper competitions. Its main downside was that only Hornady made brass, but recent Bulletin reports say Norma is starting production and Winchester is about to offer a factory match load, so unprimed cases will presumably be available from there too shortly.

If you're going to shoot in F-Class, you want the 28-inch barrel at the least, and 30 inches won't do any harm unless it 'over-barrels' whatever stock and action you're going to use. You're being a tad optimistic with 140s at 2,900 fps. The cartridge will just do it, but normally through the use of double-base or high-energy powders such as Re17, H414, Viht N550 and suchlike. They'll beat a barrel to death in no time at 60,000 psi or a bit more levels and your brass will last a couple or three firings too.

My view, and that of some others who've played with the smaller 6.5s, is that they're at their best with 120-130gn bullets. they will handle the 139-142gn class but struggle to reach the MVs that seem to suit these bullets best for long-range use.

So far as barrel life goes, I'd expect the 6.5X47L, 6.5 Creedmoor, and .260 Rem to be better than the 6BRX providing pressures are kept at sensible levels.

I got lucky and my 260rem Bartlein 8 twist lasted 4068 rounds, now I'm shooting 6.5 Creedmoor, accuracy has been stellar, laying prone with a Harris bipod and a TAB Gear rear bag I have many .3 or less groups, with single digit spreads, I don't expect any 6.5 barrel to last much over 3000 rounds in precision rifle matches(tactical/sniper), but in the game of F-Class I would choose another cartridge, something capable of pushing high BC bullets at a velocity that makes the X ring smaller.

I had a 6.5 Creedmoor in a Savage tactical setup. My experience with a just under 27 inch barrel using h4350 that 2900fps was it would eat primer pockets and only get 3-4 firings per case. I backed it down and that issue cleared up. I'm talking 140's. I didn't keep it long enough to tell you barrel life but not because I wasn't happy with the gun I just realized the way that gun was setup it wouldn't compete with the customs in the clay matches I shoot. So I sold it and bought a true bench gun.

Short story long, I agree with Laurie.

I saw some high velocities using Re17 with the Berger 130 vld. I won't list the load, and had to toss the brass, but it was fast (accuracy was decent but not better than a slower load). I usually see 2800 fps using H4350 and the Berger 140 vld. Both my son's rifle and mine like that velocity. FWIW, both are 26", with his being a Brux and mine being an Obermeyer.

I've got experience with 5 different 6.5 Creedmoor's...

Savage LRP - 41.5 H4350 140 amax .010 off = 2750
Savage LRP - 41.8 H4350 140 BTHP Hornady .010 off = 2820
Custom Rem 26" Rock Creek 42.9 H4350 140 amax .020 off = 2860
Custom Rem 26" Rock Creek 41.7 H4350 140 VLD .010 in = 2850
Custom Rem 26." Kreiger 41.7 H4350 140 VLD .010 in = 2850

None of the loads exibit pressure in summertime heat. Mine had 1525 rounds thru it at seasons end and the throat hadn't moved yet. I decided to set it back from 28" just because I was bored. Same velocity at 26.5". Most of the brass is on 6-8 firings. I shoot long range and tactical comps with mine and it does vary well at 1000. FWIW, all three of the custom Rem's that are up in the 2850 range were cut with the same match reamer and .170 freebore. The Savage LRP obviously have the factory slut chambers, but still shoot very well.
