6.5 creedmoor

Thinking of building a 6.5 creedmoor and running 140 or 142 smks I'm kind of new to long range shooting. Was wondering if this set up would be good for 1000 yd groups
Just looking for some advice thanks

Had shot 6.5 creed for years, u will really like and push 2500 rounds thru barrel, use smk142gr., hornady brass works well btw, h4350 is go to powder. Kelbly may have a GRS stock. Panda f class action. Large rifle primers my opinion for long range. Have fun!

I'm stuck between the creed and a 6.5-284

You won't get the velocity of the 6.5-.284 but your barrel will last about twice as long (if not more than that). It would be a good chambering if you are new to the game. I shoot one at 600yds and it does well. 1000yds is a different beast as far as wind calls go; the Creedmoor would give less margin for error than the faster 6.5-284...it would make you a better wind reader;).

If you wanna just play....... the creed is a great little cartridge... if you wanna compete the xtra HP. in the 6.5x284 is an advantage........

And don't forget the Berger 140's and 142'a either. I've seen the Bergers do a little bit better than the Sierras (not knockin Sierras) in a few 6.5's.

I like the Berger 130 hybrid, as it seats well and I can load them into a 10 round magazine. The accuracy at distance is not bad either. The difference is not that much, when compared to 308 with 150gn vs 185grn hybrids.

I really like the 6.5-284 but the barrel will not last a season for me ...and the time and cost to re-barrel made me look closely at my shooting and competing habits. I was shooting an occasional 1000 yd match and practicing some as well. However, I LOVE 6.5 CM and shoot the NRA style 600 yd mid-range matches and practice very often and thus it works best for me. The brass is easy and a great choice of bullets makes I an easy choice. unless you are able to make your own barrels and put them on , maybe the 6.5-284 is not for you.
I didn't ask, I'm sorry, are you reloading?

If you shoot 600 build the creedmoor and if you shoot 1000 yds more build the 6.5 x284..just remember to buy 2 barrels for the 6.5 x 284 because the round count will last about 1/3 less then the creedmmor...Or cry once and build both..Alot of above good information given...

On 1300 Rds with my broughton 6.5-284. Still going strong. Never rule out the 6.5-284. Just don't run them full throttle. 3000 fps is fine and not hot. You'll get some mileage. Creedmore is awesome too. Just a preference because both are very accurate at 600/1000.

Yes i have been for about 10 years just started really pursuing long range reloading !

I believe that the NEW Lapua made 6.5 Creedmoor brass will make things a real game changer. A 6.5 x 47 using 140 class bullets, you can reasonably attain 2830f.p.s. With a "Regular" 6.5 Creedmoor you can reasonably get to 2875+... However, with the NEW 6.5 Creedmoor brass utilizing small primer pockets and the inherent additional strength of that brass, I believe it will be very possible to get to 2920f.p.s., of course using 30" barrels. Now that we have RL-16 (same burn rate range as H4350) the possibility exists to get into that 2920+ range without "pushing" it. But only time will tell. If I am correct, then the New Lapua brass will be a huge game changer!

I'm pulling my 6.5 creedmoor barrel off tomorrow morning and re-chambering it back to 6.5 creedmoor. I have completely shot the throat out with 1800 rounds to the point where I can't touch the lands with a 140 Berger Hybrid seated all the way out. Now in the defense of this round..... I shoot very fast with out cool down time and hot loads, constantly pushing over 2900 fps. As far as accuracy, I like it because I feel it bucks the wind pretty good and it's really light on recoil.

That's about all you will get out of most high-performance rounds used under the stress of competition. Some a tad more, some a tad less. You are right in the ballpark with most competitors.
