6.5 Creedmoor Varmint Bullets Help.

I just received a new Savage LRP in 6.5 Creedmoor, Looking for help in varmint bullet selection. The LRP will be used for groundhog and coyote, from 100 yards to 1000 yards with most longer range shots between 400 and 600 yards. Not keeping hides so do not care about being pelt friendly. What are you guys using for a good accurate varmint bullet. Thanks for any help.

I'd recommend Sierra 85 gr for closer shots, but given the 1000y distance, a bullet in the 100-120 gr would be a better choice. Hornady v-max or speed TNT are close, but might be tricky at 1000y

I ran the 123 amax for a while. they were very accurate and you could crank up the speed. Would be a good balance between speed and long distance precision.

Sierra tipped match king 107 grain. It’s a new bullet this year. Perfect for varmints and a decent BC too for the size. I use H4895 but Varget would work well too.

When I started getting set up for long range coyotes, I knew that the rifle had to be made AROUND the bullet that gave the best all around BC. But then... I knew I needed a high quality scope on top, along with a high quality range finder. Because for me...hitting a gong at known distances meant nothing if I couldn't make quick distance ranges... and dial the scope to quality spot on drop settings. I found out that this long range stuff involves a whole package deal of different components that all have to come together in order to pull off long range shots at unknown distances. I know your only asking about bullets...My Bad...LOL. But I pick the bullet that gave the BEST BC, because you WILL NEED IT. It's gotta stay flat shooting without being too light to be wind drifty...which we all know. Since I have a new 6.5 creedmoor, I guess I need to also figure out what is the Best BC bullet for varmints. So you have a good question Buddy... it sure has gotten my wheels to turning.

Inside 400 yds it doesn't matter too much about which bullet has the maximun BC... but further.... it's important. You would think that the long range competition guys would have that all figured out. Sorry I didn't have any help for you, but I just had to run my head a little bit...LOL.

I don't have a 6.5 Creedmore but have a 6.5X47 Lapua and a 65.-06 and I like the 6.5 120 grain Amax for just about anything I shoot at. I also use the 95 Vmax & 100 Amax but in the 6.5-06 lots of blast & short barrel life with 95's, 100's & 120"s. There is a definite wind advantage with the 120's and I would expect the velocity advantage of the 100's would diminish with range. Hopefully the new 120 ELDM will equal the now extinct 120 AMAX.

The 123 eldm is built for Grendel speeds. It makes a helluva mess with 6.5cm speeds on critters. Good option for yotes and they shot lights out, out to 850-900 for me

I'm only a novice at varminting, but check out the reviews on Nosler's ballistic tip or Varmageddon bullets. Deadly accurate and explosive on impact.

Currently using the Hornady 6.5 100gr ELD-M with 38.5gr of IMR 4166 for coyotes. Shoots great in my Savage FV. Hornady brass, BR-2 Primers and an OAL of 2.70". Might give it a go in your LRP.

Longest coyote I sniped (~700yds) was with a 130HVLD (6.5SAUM) They shoot real well, and are lethal!

For 4-600yds, I see no tangible performance gain for going lighter, or heavier...a 130 is where drop & drift #s jive best in that range...

An argument for going lighter might be to enjoy a flatter MBPR. But that ain't gonna help from 4-600, you're well past that.
Also, you'll feel less recoil & better be able to see impact thru scop. Doubtful you'll see it all, but a pushing a lighter bullet will help, some...

Going heavier, you might improve a smudge on drift, but not enough to bother in the 4-600yd range. IMHO, 130gr is 'ideal' boolit weight for 6.5mms...

Good luck!
