6.5 creedmoor load data

Alright I have a buddy that just purchased a 6.5 creedmoor and is looking for any load data that is out there.
The rifle is currently not shooting worth a damn. ..

Is he shooting factory or hands loads? Is the rifle new or used ? What scope ?

Handloads, sightron SIII, and have tried bergers and Hornady (123, 130, 140)

If it won't shoot 140s with somewhere between 41 to 43grs of H4350 then there is something wrong with the gun.

A Berger 130 should also perform well in the Creed. Have you checked bedding and barrel clearance? Any chance you can scope the bore and chamber?

I've been shooting the Creedmoor since it became available. Had a Remington 700 rebarreled using a Brux 1-8.5"×26". Anyway, I thought it was not going to shoot either using the data available (on the box of Hornady factory ammo). I had to start really leaning on the load and found that particular barrel/rifle combo wanted the 140 Amax to be running 2825-2850. Switched to 140 Berger VLDH and found the same. That particular rifle became the most consistent day to day rifle I've had. My other Creedmoor likes the same bullets at that velocity, it just takes a little more powder to get there.

Point is, run the 140's 2825ish, and run the Berger 130 at or around 2925ish. That works for the Creedmoor's I have.

Just for brevity sake, it would help if you would provide the rifle/load tried information.

I had the same problem with one other barrel I bought..Switched barrel and now i''m happy.
I found sierra 123 gr and H 4831 to work the best for me to date..At 300 yards I am getting
1 1/4 inch 5 shot groups..I think with more experimenting it will do better than that..

Same deal, between 42-43 Grains H4350. Mine like 42.6 GR.

Thanks guys for all the replies, I think that the only powder he has not tried is the H4350, my 6.5x47Ls love the H4350. I will load him up some with the H4350 and see what happens. Thanks again all

Just as info this is a Ruger.....

why does the hodgdon site say 40 grains is max for the 140 gr bullet

because it is a lawyer thing...

I am around 43-43.5 gr of H4350 with the 140gr hybrids. Never had a problem. Firings are 8+ with the so called "less quality" hornady brass ;D

Always work up your loads. Start maybe around 41.5 gr and work up.

I had the same issue with mine using the lighter bullets (120 & 123). Switched from H4350 to IMR4350 and behold... small groups. That being said, I also found that it shoots the 140gr bullets better and isn't so fussy on load development. JME. WD

What about berger 130s

142 SMKs and 42.4 grains H 4350 has worked well in mine.

130 Berger Hunting VLDs and 43.5 grains of H 4350 is looking good but I'm still tweaking it.
Going to back off .1 grain and reshoot. So far seating depth is looking like -.017 but I'm doing more testing there too.

I shoot 142SMKs with 41.5 gr of H4350,210m primers with a COAL of 2.825". Very accurate out to 1000 yards.
My barrel is a 24" 8 twist.

I totally agree with this comment. I load for several, and use nothing but H4350. Have had excellent luck with the 140 A-max as well....

Tony.

142 SMK (point them for really long range (past 600)
42.5 RL17
Federal Gold Medal Primer
Hornady brass (I have had most brass last 10+ firings before pockets get larger than I like)
No signs of pressure ( measured case head, ejector swipe and gauge primer pockets)
A 26" barrel gives me 2850 FPS

MINE SURE DOES LIKE 130GR BERGERS AND H-4350 I DONT PUSH MINE FOR SPEED BUT SHE SURE SHOOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
