6.5 Creedmoor from 22-250

Got some Lapua 22-250 brass to try to make into 6.5CM. Was thinking about first running a mandrel to expand neck, and then through FL type S die in 6.5 CM without expander ball. Trim to length and chamfer. Will this give an adequate shoulder, or will it still require a fire-form? What kind of accuracy can I expect from the fire forming step? Are these rounds going to be useful, or just useful for generating pressure?

You will still have to fireform. There will be no shoulder contact with a 22-250 case. I seat 120 grain class bullets extremely long, and let the bolt jam the rounds into the rifling. Otherwise all I get are slightly dimpled primers and no bang! Dont bother FL sizing. It wont make any contact with a 22-250 case. My fireforming rounds are good trigger practice, but usually only 1 MOA at best.

I'm using some cheap 139 grain PRVI bullets for fire forming. I use a 6mm expander ball then a 6.5 expander ball then full length size but I'm only doing that because it's giving me a slight false shoulder. I'm also seating the bullets long just like TiGuy to help with keeping headspace.

I also experienced just under 1 MOA while fire forming but I was using those garbage bullets and wasn't expecting much.

I had to adjust my trim to length, I believe I went with 1.880" instead of 1.920", the .22-250 brass leaves you with a shorter neck but it's not an issue. Don't try trimming until after you've fired, it'll shorten up after fire forming.

Are the fire forming rounds useful? Sure, you get to practice trigger time.

Here are some pictures of the process I took on another thread: http://www.accurateshooter.com/forum/index.php/topic,3748566.0.html
