6.5 Creedmoor competition load

Hello, I have a competition rifle : bartlein/muzzlebraked barrel, MCMillan custom poured stock, NightForce scope, Stolle dual port action, Jewell trigger w/safe. Now chambered for 6.5 Creedmoor, initial test show a nearly 200 fps increase from the previous 2,500 fps velocities in the wildcat cartridge with 142 grain bullets which I have a lot of. This increase astounds me when you compare the two cases, side by side.
There are a lot of rifles out there in this caliber and I wonder if some competitor would be willing to share with me which exact powders work best at the highest velocities with the Lowest SD's/ES ratings? My barrel is 25 3/8" long witha 1-8 twist. I am not too lazy to do this, but my time would be best spent in getting in shape for walking the 3-4 mile course, after just beating both Cancer and a Heart attack and I have my doctors permission to do this sort of shooting.

Thank you in advance for any help in this matter.

Wow, man, you're an inspiration! I don't compete but it sounds like a favorite powder is H4350 and a bullet around 140 grains. You're velocity should be 2650 to 2750 fps.

You might try snooping around on Snipers Hide for a load.

Yup, H4350 is the go to powder. RL16 works well too. You could shoot F Class but you have to take the brake off. No one wants to shoot next to someone with a muzzle brake and for that reason they are not allowed. PRS is another story. I'm to lazy for PRS. Last thing I want to do now that I'm retired is have some authority figure holding a stop watch next to my head.

This one works for me.
41.8 H4350
142 SMK
Lapua case
CCI 450
26 Proof on a Lone Peak Fuzion

My 24'' 1&8 6.5CM with 41gns of RL16 pushes a Hornady 140gn BTHPM, a bit over 2800fps, I don't have any other data on this load yet, I only used them for siters, my focus is on the 147gn ELDM's, last trip out 40gn of RL16 ran the 147's @2730fps, I was only shooting a ladder test for seating depth and velocities, 5 shot strings from 17k to 29k off touch and 3k increments in between,

Been shooting a Savage 12 F/V for 7 years now. I'm on my 3 rd barrel as I shot out the factory barrel after a 2 year shooting 600 and 1000 yds. It is now wearing a Brux 28" . After doing my node testing I settled on 40.5 Gr of H4350, CCI #41 and 140 ELD's .05" off the lands. FPS is 2699 (+/- 20 fps). My last 1000 yd target is below. Shot #1 was lower FPS than the other 4. I have tried other powders but H4350 seems to be the best for my gun. This is a bench rest light gun. You would not want to walk 300 ft carrying this gun. Good luck on your recovery and have fun...

I have 2 6.5 creedmoors that i just use for fun. The fastest one i use 140 eldm with R16 at 42.0gr charge hornady brass. I was at 42.4 but was damaging primer pockets fast so i backed off and still has good accuracy. Now be careful what brass you use and work up. The 42.4 was below spec from what i was seeing. I tried it in nosler brass with a great surprise of the primer blowing out of the case and pressure signs. Did not try that again. Stuck with hornady brass after that. Its a 24in factory savage barrel and clocks 2,831fps. I now have lapua lrp brass just have not tried them out yet. Been doing more predator hunting vs target shooting.

Search 6.5 Creedmoor Precision Shooting Blog. Its What the Pros Use. Find that it gives exactly what the pros are using and what is changing with respect to calibers, bullets etc. Last few years most are using a 6 mm caliber, like the 6mm Creedmoor, for example. All the 6.5s have faded in use, and the pros are moving in droves for the less recoil of the 6mm. Tons of information there.

Spudgun, I think you missed the velocity you intended. 2699 fps in 6.5 Creed with 40.5 gr H4350 and 140 grain bullet?? I would expect another 100-200 fps.

I have tried the holy grail H4350 loads with 140 Berger VLD in .2 grain ladders and seating depth.003 increments afterwards on RL-16,N550,IMR4350 with Lapua brass 210 federal primers but just for grins n giggles yesterday loaded 20 rounds with the Carolina load as mentioned in my GA precision built rifle and all 4-5 shot groups shot were in low.2’s average velocity was 2743 with ES average of 7 . This load was as good or better with going straight to the 44.3 grain and 2.80 COAL no testing as all my other loads with extensive testing.

That’s pretty crazy.:)
