6.5 Creedmoor casings-can't seem to fully resize them

In the long run it is usually better and cheaper to use virgin brass, rather than chasing down precision with unknown sources. Even with the best virgin brass there is enough inspecting, sorting, fire forming to get the best results. Unknown is......well unknown!

golfer,

You should consider purchasing a case gauge to help find the places to fix. Less expensive than new brass, and you can find out if your dies are the issue, or the chamber.

Doesn't anyone have a roll sizer? I bet that would fix the issue.
My guess would be the base of the brass is over size. Yes, buy new brass for precision shooting but for casual shooting see if roll sizing will work.

I collect all the once fired 6.5Creed brass that I can find at our club. It is normally sitting in the pails along with the original empty ammo box. Once I get a few hundred I list it for free to any member of the service. Occasionally, I find a load of once fired .308 match casings. They get moved along the same way. It sure beats selling them for scrap!

If the recipient has a problem with any of the brass, they can just toss them, but I haven't had anyone tell me that yet.

If you followed the usual manufacturer's instructions to adjust your die, then that could be your problem. Run a fired case into the die and with the handle down, case all the way up, check for a small gap between the top of shell holder and the bottom of the die. If there is a gap, lower your die about 1/8 to 1/4 turn and check again. Keep going til there is no gap. Now see if the case will fit your chamber. If you ran the ram up and snugged the die down on the shell holder, you will have a gap with a case being resized. There is slack in the system that requires a "load" to get it all out.

My advice. Never ever use brass fired in a different chamber.
Well ALL my brass is from my range bin, once fired and preferably gathered in lots then checked in chambers....but it's all from bolt loaders not them brass wrecking autos.
Never had an issue.
YMMV

I glad it works for you. I've just had to many conversations with customers with issues. My very first question is" are you using brass fired in another chamber?" It works when the same smith and reamer are used.

I recently purchased some once fired Norma brass in 6.5 Creedmoor. I figured that I would just resize them and load them for the field. After resizing to the full extent of the resizing die, the brass will still not fit at all into the rifle.
So what is going on here?
Do they make a small base resizing die to take care of this issue.
I have new brass that fits easily.
Somehow I need to get these brass down to where they fit.
Any ideas on how to solve this issue?
Thanks!!
I would venture to say, that the brass you bought was fired in a semi-auto rifle and it need two things to fit your chamber, even if you FL sized it in your standard die.
A small base die to take the base back down to specs and/or the overall lenght of the brass trimmed to specs.
Nothing wrong with once fired brass, but it often needs a little more work to put it back to specs for the first firing in your chamber. I would anneal it also prior to sizing in a SB did and trim.

I have learned more from prepping range brass, than from reloading new brass dedicated to my custom barreled hunting rifles. That being said, range brass loads just don't quite perform as consistently as dedicated new brass lots. All my range brass is drop test fit in ammo checkers after sizing. If not a perfect fit(for my rifle(s) chamber, that piece gets sized once more with a 10 second dwell (in die)instead of the usual 5-6 seconds. If the second drop fit test isn't perfect-in the scrap bucket. Its very unusual for me to toss one(in 100-150). I run range brass in 4 223 barrels(2 AR, 2 bolt) mostly for prairie dogs and have a very high hit percentage.
