6.5 creedmoor bullet recommendation

Good to hear.
Give them a good sort and you should be fine
That is my plan, but I'm at a little bit of a loss on how to sort them... Obviously anything with broken or loose tips get set aside. How tight should I keep the weight tolerances? What about diameter tolerances?

Bullet base to ogive 1st, this is most important as it sets your jump and keeps everything consistent to the lands

Overall length would be my 2nd measurement after sorting bbto.
Most of you variation in length will be from ogive forward.
Various OAL of bullet will skew your cartridge base to ogive measurement, as seater stem is contacting bullet at different location causing variations.
I highly recommend you get a VLD seater stem from your die manufacturer ensuring your seating stem is contacting the jacket and not seating bullets by seating off the tip.

After batching by measurements I'd probably due a random weight check looking for +/- .2-.3 weight variation.
Cant say I'd worry about shank or preasure ring dimensions.

Hope this helps

The last Hornady "seconds" I got were 7MM 162gr HPBT...great bullet!!!...and I asked the same question. Finally went by weight and length. Bottom line? The weight and length were so close overall that I began to doubt if it would have that much impact. In fact I could not tell why they were listed as "seconds" in the first place.
Probably a pretty lame not much help answer to your question but would appreciate knowing what you decide and what was "seconds" about the ELD-X's.

500 factory seconds arrived today. I wait about a dozen of them and they vary between 143.0 to 143.3. I did not check a base to Ojive measurement. How much weight variance would be considered acceptable?

Savage 110 BA Stealth. Shoots factory 143 eld-x @5/8 MOA all day. Steel to 10" steel to 1,000 consistantly. Tried the Berger EOL 156's never got better than a 1MOA. Most likely something i was doing.

Decided to go back to the 143 eld-x's found them @ optics planet and ordered 2 boxes. ..... Just got an email they wont ship till spring. So........ Now I am looking for a good alternative.

requirements.
Good to 1000 yards on steel,
good terminal performance on game to 600.
and lastly.... BE AVAILABLE!

thanks for the recommendations in advance.

I use 140gr bergers and h-4350 41grs shoots lights out for the 30 6.5 creedmoors I load for.

I've tried Nosler 140 RDFs in my Remington 6.5CM with very poor results. They'll print a sub-MOA group then string is 3MOA. Another Competitor at our Long Range matches is getting 1/2MOA consistently with the 140 RDFs from his Savage.

(said with an ear to the ground) "Savage fanboys; at least 1,000 of them and riding this way fast."
:D
But seriously, the RDF line has that rep. They are either fantastic of terrible and the rifle, barrel, cartridge, etc makes no difference.
I am with @Bc'z on the bullet weight. In my 12 years of 6.5 Creedmoor experience the new heavy bullets need not apply. What one gets in one area of performance one give away in other.

The 140 RDF has been the most consistently accurate bullet in all 3 of the 6.5CM's I have built. Did best with 6.5 StaBall and OAL just short of the lands.

Grandson took his best buck yet with the 6.5 Creed I did him on a Ultra Light Arms action using Factory 120gn. GMX Hornady loaded ammo. 200yds. and no tracking. Printed under 1/2" groups on a new rifle at 100yds. so zeroed it at 200yds. and he got the job done. Not gonna change anything here.

JLK 130, 135, or 140. They have rock solid base to ogive consistency, weight, etc. Also incredibly accurate. Talk to the F-class shooters. And available. They have been used just like Bergers for long range hunting. I have not personally shot game with them, but I have obtained great accuracy. You can get excellent accuracy at magazine length, possibly benefitting from use of an EC Tuner, but if you aren't getting a tuner, or your barrel is too thin for one (0.850", IIRC), jam them 10-12 thousandths into the lands, then work up the powder charge. This hasn't failed me yet, in .22 cal or 6.5.

Very good information! Thanks to all for the feedback. As I move into the 2021 LR season, my Rem 700 barreled action is moving into a Boyd Pro Varmint stock I had for a BDL rifle. I will use your advise to get started on new loads to get this rifle to shoot consistently!

Happy New Year to All!

I have 2 rifles in 6.5cm. One shoots 140 vld hunting bergers and other likes 140 eld-m hornady. None in stock for months. Good luck.
