6.5 Creedmoor and hybrid100V

Has anyone tried using the Hybrid 100V powder in any 6.5cm loads? Was thinking about trying some and was just wondering if anyone else has and how was your results? Will be using 140gr bullets out of a 24" barrel.

Thanks,

Bought a pound to try in my son's Creedmoor. Tried it with 140 VLD's, and the velocity was there, but not the accuracy. This is compared to H4350 btw. I did not give it a complete work up, but with a few different charges with no other changes, did not make me want to give up H4350.

This rifle also likes Varget and to a lesser degree, IMR4350. Who knows, maybe will try Re17, but will probably sit back and enjoy plain old, not too sexy H4350......

DHD,

Thanks for your reply, I am with ya on the good ol' H4350 being old faithful. I was just wondering if there was something out there close to being an equivalent being the H4350 is kinda hard to come by at the moment. The hybrid 100 seemed to have promise seeing the loads in the book, but sometimes paper doesnt always translate to real world. the other powder I was interested in was H414, so I may give that a try.

I have a brand new Shilen 6.5CM barrel I just put on a savage action and I've got 50 rounds loaded with H414 I'm gonna try out. I have plenty of H4350 but use it in my 6x47L. Have 3 pounds of 414 just sitting begging to be used so going to try it first. Once I can get out to the range I'll give some feedback of how it goes.

Sounds great, looking forward to seeing the (good) results hopefully!

While not the same application, I've tried it in a 6mm Remington and it performed quite well for me, better than H4350, but every gun is different.

HTH,

peterf225,

I would stay away from 414 I had a 243Imp that loved it but it carbon fouled so bad I had to have the barrel lapped to get the carbon out.

Raptor,

Thanks for the heads up. I'll be sure to keep an eye on it.

Well I finally got around to trying out my new shilen 6.5 creedmoor. Every load I tried using H414 and 120 a-max shot under 1" at 100 yds. The best I got so far was ~1/2". That particular load shot well enough I went 5 for 5 shooting golf balls.

well has anyone have any updates on loads for the 6.5cm..I'm shooting a savage 16 hunting rifle 22" barrel 1-8 twist. it really is a poor quality rifle but does not shoot too bad. it is very hard to shoot from the bench well.
I have been playing with a 123 gr A-Max and IMR 4007ssc. accuracy has been close to 1/2" 3 shot groups. velocity has been 2,950's decent groups at 100 yards but a fairly big ES. close to 80FPS or so, it's been 30 deg F out.
I also been shooting the 130 VLD with RL17 at 2,700 fps it shot well and into the mid 2,800's it looked OK but once i hit 2,900 to 2,950 fps the groups opened up to 2" and had a large ES. so the hotter i went the worse it got. I had no pressure signs in the mid 2,950's but the hotter i went with the load the worse the groups got. Another cartridge i played with RL17 had the same kind of results, great velocity and the faster it went the worse the groups got. I did shoot some in a .270 win that did group OK but not as accurate as IMR4350 in it.

so i will play with some H4350,IMR4350 and will keep playing with the IMR4007ssc as it seemed accurate if i could get the ES down. I don't feel i was hot with the loads.

Factory Hornady 140 A-max match loads chroney'ed at 2,660 FPS
Factory Hornady superperformance 129 SST loads chroney'ed at 2,980 FPS
Out the the 22" tube.

FJIM - I've had a couple of 6.5x47 bbls that gave disappointing results with the loads/powders that worked very well in a couple of other 6.5x47s. Found loads with IMR4007SSC & any of the three 123s (Hornady, Lapua, Sierra) that shot better than anything else I've tried to date. Kinda strange, since I'd never really found another good application for 4007, but I'm not complaining. Liked it enough to purchase another 8lb jug of the stuff.

Now if I could just find a cartridge/bullet combination where H100V really shines....got two 8-pounders of it. List of candidate cartridges - 6 RAT, 6BR/Dasher, 6&6.5x47 Lapua, 250 AI, 260 Imp, 7-08 Imp. Anyone have any luck with H100V in any of these?
