6.5 Creedmoor, 123 Sierras at 500yd?

Guys have a buddy who is entertaining the thought of a 6.5 CM. He has a custom 6.5x55 swede, with muzzle brake I helped him build that shoots the lights out with a 120, 85 or 140graing bullet. Several of us get together and shoot 500yds. He wanted one to shoot the 123gr. Sierras at 500, I told him sounded good, gonna true the receiver up, put on a Krieger CBI orShilen varmint barrel, 8 twist, SSS trigger and aftermarket stock and recoil lug. What do you guys think? All feedback from experienced 6.5 CM shooters is appreciated. I also asked him if he thought about using a 6.5x55 heavy barrel, since he had everything already.

Without a doubt it will work. SMK, Scenar, or Amax. My Creedmoor's shoot the 123's well with either Varget or H4350. Varget possibly gets the nod on accuracy and H4350 being able to push them faster, but either powder is very good. There are other powders that work very well too.

No offense intended or implied, but this is similar to asking "I have a 308, will it shoot the 175 grain SMK's". If a Creedmoor won't shoot a 123 (like a 308 with 175's), something is wrong. This an easy caliber to load for.

500 yards is nothing for that combination.

I was shooting a friends to 600 with factory 120 amax hornady ammo. Pretty impressive results for a factory gun and factory ammo!

Thanks for the response guys. I am a pretty fanatical 6.5 cartridge guy, just never shot the creedmoor, about the only 6.5 I have not shot. I talked my buddy out of it, since he has a large supply of 6.5x55 swede quality comonents, and can do anything or more the CM will do, will be building a swede with 7 or 8 twist heavy barrel.
