6.5 bullet recommendations

Hey guys I was wondering what bullet was the best for long range shooting. just steel targets and paper with a 1:9twist. I know the 140s is what you want but I can't go there with that twist. It'll be a 6.5-284. Is there anything that can reach out to say 1000 yards? I WA thinking maybe 123 scenars? Thanks

Toss up between 130 bergers, 123 scenars, 123 SMK's and 123 amax. Scenars are usually a good bet.

Don't automatically assume that your 9 twist won't shoot the 140's. I have a 9 twist rifle that shoots 140g Berger VLD's very accurately. If the Bergers are too expensive for you, try the 140g AMAX. You may find yourself pleasantly surprised.

If you find that your rifle will not stabilize the 140 class VLD type bullets, then go to something else like the 130g Berger (however Berger still recommends an 8 twist for this bullet), 129g SST/129g Interbond, or 123g AMAX.

Lots of 260's I know of are made with 1:9 and shoot 140 VLD's just fine. I suggest trying some. The 140 Amax is an unsung hero too. I just don't think you'll have a problem.

I tried the 130 vld's and found them to be squirrely.I am now using 120 sierra matchkings with decent accuracy.I think the 123's are good too but it has been awhile since I used them.

I like the Scenar but not the price! 123 gr. A-Max here in my Grendel's and 6.5X47 Lapua. I have all 8tw but not enough case capacity for the 140's, IMHO.

I am happy shooting the 120 smk's and the 123 Lapua Scenars.

My 6.5x47 absolutely loves the above two bullets, especially the 120 smk's.

I would buy them if he did, but I think he has his hands full as it is. My last order took 6 months. They are worth the wait in my rifle, but you better plan ahead because they are in high demand.

i shoot the 123 scenars in mid range f class, and out to 1000 yds frequently. they are the only bullet i use in my custom 260 anymore.
