6.5/300 Weatherby: "Fresh Mag" or retreaded hype?

You have had better luck with Norma than me. I get 3-5 loadings in a 300 Wby, before the primer pocket gets loose. I went to R-P brass and have gotten 3 so far, but don't shoot the gun much now as I am working on loads for a 30 Newton.

This was '90's era brass - I don't know if Norma has gotten better or Rem worse since then.

It could be a soft batch. It could also be a big chamber. Maybe the loads are a touch on the warm side. Matt

They are warm but not hot. I can never seem to get the velocity that the factory ammo gets w/o having flat primers flowing into the brass.
Speaking of factory ammo, I shot a box of it because my old 300 Wby had a longer throat than this one and my old ammo wouldn't chamber. Upon reloading the once fired factory stuff - the primer pockets were looser than I like. I credited it a soft batch, but dang 2 loads and done is rough on the wallet with Norma prices!!
I did read about tightening up the pockets with a ball bearing or something like that. Never tried it, I figured it would only tighten up the very end of the case and give a false sense of security.
My loose pocket stuff doesn't go to waste - When I feel the primer go in too easy I mark the head with a Sharpie. I then load it and put it in my Zombie stash - during the Zombie Apocalypse I am not gonna be worried about picking up brass ;-)

An Aussie was on here a few years ago with a way he was saving his 264 Win Mag brass. He had sizing dies made somewhat like the Lee bullet sizing dies but tapered up to the business diameters of .532", .529", and .526" if I remember correctly.

By running the brass through the dies he was able to swage/shrink the primer pockets closed enough.
