6.5-284. Where do I start?

I use 870 in my 6.5-280ai, when I run out I'll try H1000 and 5010. I have a 30 in barrel and it's got enough meat to set back at both ends if necessary. The one thing about this rifle is I have to leave it or sell it to a handloader/ machinist as no family at this time needs it.
Sad that we have to start thinking this way.

55ish grains of H1000 and your choice of 140 should put you right around the 2950 sweet spot. Retumbo has also worked really well for me in the past. H4831sc has always been an accurate powder but never got me the speed I wanted. N560, N565 and R23 would also be good powders to try in that cartridge.

I shoot 142 SMK’s with 49 Grains of IMR4831 and Federal 210M Primers. OAL is 3.042 long action 26” 1-8T. Can’t recall the velocity, but its dependable 1/2MOA.

… And I’ve got the headspace gauges if you want to borrow them. Figure if shipping costs will outway the just buy em costs?

Anyone ever try 7828?? I have 8 lbs of it and only half pound of H1000 (and no luck of finding more).
30" long action - throated barrel

My Cooper shot the 140 VLD and 142 Partitions great. H4831SC and Retumbo both worked great for me.

Any of you 6.5-284 guys wanna buy my die set and handful of 6.5 bullets? Make me an offer :)
dies posted here:

Also have these bullets:
I have about 750ct total:

375ct Berger 140gr VLD match (same lot, it's a partial 500ct box)
79ct Lapua Scenar 139gr
50ct 140gr SMK
240ct 140gr Nosler customer competition (same lot; it's a partial 250ct box)
5ct Nosler Accubond 130gr

I have 8lbs. of IMR4350 I use it in a lot of situations that might not be ideal but it works pretty well. Since he already has 2lbs. of it on hand maybe it will be ok to use less than ideal powder! I would look at 284 Win load data and start there.

I got my rifle this week! Just waiting on ammo and powder and some proper scope rings to bring my scope down to a proper level.

That's a nice looking rifle! Looking forward to reading your thoughts after you shoot it. Does it have a threaded barrel?
I'm just starting load development on my recently acquired 6.5-284 rifle myself.
