6.5-284 to 6-284 sizing problem

I'm trying to neck down 6.5-284 to 6-284. My first few attempts with a Redding neck die resulted in some really warped necks. It appears that the die is catching one side of the case mouth because the case is not centered in the die. Is there a fix for this, or do I need to use full length dies.

You would want to use one of two availble dies for necking down to 6mm. You can use either a Redding Form & Trim Die, or Redding Std. bullet seater die. These two dies use a similiar profile reamer to cut the die bodies and work very well to form the 6.5 necks down to being very close to the 6mm configuration without working the brass so hard. When you get the cases down to this level, as your first forming operation, you would want to use the std. full length sizing die to finish your sizing operation. We generally keep these dies in stock, here at Sinclair. I use this same procedure to form 6/284 brass for my gun, and it works very well.

Cordially,
Bob Blaine
