6.5-284 long neck and barrel life

Let us say we take a 6.5-284 and just change one thing. We make the neck about 0.120 longer and even get brass with the longer necks, similar to the Norma Dasher brass that have longer necks. With all the other factors staying the same how much additional barrel life could be expected with the longer neck to reduce the flame cutting in the throat?

You might look at duplicating the shoulder angle and neck length of the 6mm CM which is claimed to have a pretty long barrel life. I cannot verify their claim for this but just a thought.

If the objective is longer barrel life, the solution is slower powder like H-1000. If you look at the 6.5 SAUM, the case looks like a Dasher on steroids, but that would entail a new bolt. If one of the objectives is to keep the same bolt then 30-06 case necked down could be your answer. Lot's of 30-06 brass out there. But as with any wildcat, finding tools may be a problem.

The longer neck would still need a leade of the same length?? So i would guess, it would not help?

I keep trim length at maximum for my 243 win to reduce wear. But the length of the leade must be know/measured.

The larger amount of powder, heat and the amount of Nitroglycerine , (double based) in the powder, may be harder on a barrel? Maybe?

I couldn't get enough H1000 in a 6.5-284 case to get it up to speed. I have seen it claimed that VV165 gives the same low temp pressure advantages as H1000 and is good for barrel life and it will make a 6.5-284 preform. Ive been using it in mine for many years .
