6.5-284 info

I'm building a 6.5-284 soon and I would like some info. I'm not going to shoot any farther than 6-700yrds what barrel length, twist, bullet should i use for varmints and maybe deer?

Have you looked at the 6.5-284 article on the home page here? Absolutely outstanding info to guide you!

That is one heck of a cartridge, and our friend Jason Baney has done a fine job of researching and writing it up for all of us. Tell you the truth - I've seriously contemplated the cartridge myself. It is a zinger for long-range competition!

For hunting, if the Sierra Matchking isn't your cup of tea, there are quite a few very good hunting bullets available.

7 Mash

Consider the 140 gr Amax bullet for your long range critter getter. Ive shot Match Kings & JLK's almost extensivly in this calibre, but had extrodinary results with the Amax in 7mm hunting big & small game. I think you will be very pleased if your barrel likes the Amax.

I wish I could say ive dispatched something with a 6.5X284 but that is my dedicated LR comp rig. I did manage to ring the steel gong at 1662 yards with it though. Its very hard on barrels too.
