6.5-284 & 147gr ELD-M

I am looking for folks go to competition loads for the 6.5-284! Sorry to beat a dead horse...

I have a recently acquired RPA Quadlock with a 29" barrel set up for highpower competition. Just got the Lapua brass and the Redding dies. Have 147gr ELD-M on hand.

I guess I was thinking of starting around 47.0 grains of H4831SC, just because i have it on hand, but would consider just about anything thats a proven performer.

not finding much published data for the high 140/150 class 6.5 bullets in 6.5-284...

I surely hope you have a L-O-N-G freebore. I wanted to try them so I bought some. My 6.5 x 284 has a .200 Freebore and it is too short! The bearing surface is still BELOW the neck / shoulder junction! So I have not tried them yet. However, I have found that RL-23 is an excellent powder for the 6.5 x 284 with heavy slugs. I am currently using 49.1grs of RL-23 in my 30" 6.5 x 284 shooting 142SMKs. I am getting 2990f.p.s. and the fired cases come out just as easy as if they were not even fired!

Not in the high 140's class, started with the Lapua 139 Scenar and never looked back. Ended up at 49.4 grains of the H4831SC, but always work up to it.

my go to load is 49gr H4350 and 140gr Berger Hybrids. Tack driver. But always work up and it depends on your barrel and chamber for sure. I did not like the 147 ELDs. They are way too long and the bullet seated way deep into the donut zone.

Is that where all the pastries I eat go?

The 147s like jumping in my rifle and I've got plenty of boiler room. A reamer will handle donuts if needed, but I've yet to get any with the bullets seated all the way in.
