6.5-270 wsm??

I'm looking into having a 6.5 wsm built and since I have a lot of 270 wsm Norma brass, I want to use it. My question is, can this be done and not have to turn the necks? I would really like to just keep it simple.
Thanks in advance.

Jumper...........whose chamber reamer are you using? Does it have a no-turn neck for Norma brass?

If PT&G is making your reamer, send them a sample sized case and a case with your preferred bullet seated to the COAL you want. Tell Kiff a no-turn neck for your cases and the jump you want for the bullet. He will cut a reamer with the correct neck diameter and throat for your COAL.

I had PT&G make me a reamer for the 6mm Super LR using the above criteria and I am pleased with the results.

Hmm... I haven't gotten far enough into the project to decide this. Been doing research on it for a few weeks. Most everything I read says that you have to turn the necks because the necks are already so thick on the WSM brass that when you neck them down, they become thicker and will cause neck tension problems (not being consistent). Most people have used the 300 WSM brass when doing this cartridge. I was hoping that by only going from .277 to .264 I wouldn't have this problem. I've never really had a wildcat. I shoot an Edge but that just involves necking up some 300 RUM brass. No other adjustments needed.

I had a barrel in the same chambering. I used the 270 wsm case from norma and 270 wsm cases from winny. My case necks for both measure .015 " I had no trouble with the necks sealing even with fairly moderate loads. I can't remember if the necks thickened up after necking down or not. However, if it did, it wasn't by much because I felt no need for neck turning the norma brass. Since I no longer have a barrel in that chambering I would like to sell my redding 270 wsm FL bushing die and about 100 pieces of norma brass that has only been fired once or twice, and also some 100 pieces of winny brass. I will sell all for $85.00

Just happen to have a full set of reamers for a 6.5x270 wsm. I chambered one barrel with it. It is a PTG set of roughing and finish reamers. Also have the dies for it.

encs,
Sorry it took so long to get back. I can use the 294 nk. or the 296nk. if you still have them and the gauges Email dc@cactusasphalt.com

My 6.5 WSM has a .298 neck chamber. I am resizing new Norma 270 WSM brass without neck turning and my rounds fit just fine. Very close tolerance, though. Neck turning the new brass a little before sizing down to 6.5 mm might be the way to go with that diameter chamber neck.

In a not tint neck chamber you won't have an issue. I have a 6.5 wsm built by Kirby Allen and a handgun built by ssg and both take regular 270 wsm brass sized once in the 6.5 die no need to fire form or turn necks unless u r running a tight neck. Its a great cartridge.
