6.5/08

A good long range cartridge but half the fun of varmint shooting is being able to spot the terminal effects through your scope at the time of impact.

Unless you plan on fitting a muzzle brake or adding extra weight to the stock, I think 6mm's and below make better choices for varmint rounds.

In my .260 Rem I found the 100gr Sierra Varmint bullet, pushed by Varget, to be exceptionally accurate. I'd agree with other posters that for the little critters, though, "less is more" a smaller cartridge burns less powder and you can zip the 20, 22, and even 6mm bullet close to 4000 fps.

One more thing.

The 260, though a fine cartridge, is almost certain to have ricochets that will carry for some distance whereas the 20 and 22 varmint bullets, and even some of the 6mm bullets are, essentially, frangible and are much less likely to cause problems down range.

I'm considering a hunting gun in 360. What kind of brass are you guys using? Usually, I don't consider a cartridge unless I can use Lapua brass. I'm of the understanding that a .308 Lapua can be shortened but that's lots of trouble for a hunting gun.

So, are you guys getting really good brass for the .360?

making 260 is easy from 243 WIn, and 243 WIN are plenty available from Lapua

if you start with a 260 SAAMI reamer with .471 base, you can run is short and make a 6.5 X, with long bullet use in 6.5 you can get rather long OAL and get no feeding problem

good shooting
