6.5-06 with 30 degree shoulder

So I finally decided to go with a 6.5-06 for my new long action build (doing this over a 6.5x284 because I have a surplus of 30-06 brass and the availability of 25-06 and 270 brass).

However, I am not a fan of the sub 20 degree shoulder. Is there a version of the 6.5-06 that is not improved but does have a 30 or 40 degree shoulder? think 6.5-06 SLR

Or is it possible to use 6.5 creedmoor (or SLR) dies to neck up 25-06 brass and get the 30 degree shoulder from that?

Thanks

Nothing I know of off the top of my head, but Norma 280 ackley brass makes a standard 6.5-06 AI much easier. If you order a reamer, do yourself a favor and make sure you get it long enough to accept 270 & 280 brass.

i guess that's a possibility but since i already have most of the brass i would need to fireform it as well. Plus i'm happy with the velocity range that the 6.5-06 offers and don't really need the extra AI velocity but i could always down load for it if i went that route

6.5-280 RCBS. I have one and it's ether a 28 or 30 degree shoulder. I built it several years ago and have only fired it about 50-75 times at the range. Did some load development and was promising. I got started on the next rifle and haven't messed with it much since then.

Thanks Spitfire,
I did a quick search and found your old posts about it as well but not much else. Does this case require fireforming or can I just run a 25-06, 270, 280, 30-06(probably need to step it down) case in a die and get a formed case?

6.5-06 Baer.....I am running a tweaked version of that round and am very satisfied. F.F.ing at 500yds with 54g RL22 and 142SMK's at 3075ish fps and an SD of 5 the accuracy is wonderful. I step the brass down with a 280-270 then the 6.5-06 Baer die. Trim them back to 2.46 then FF...........Rick

Thanks for the input guys but i'm not look for a case that needs fire-forming, just a run through a forming die

Doubtful you'll get that, AIs have forward shoulders to allow FF from standard brass. The change is more than shoulder location, body taper changes too. End answer, even knocking shoulder back, fire forming is recommended before you load for max pressure.

Sorry to say that if you want to change the neck diameter and the angle of the shoulder there will be some forming done but If I am not mistaken it is with a standard load and is accurate with the 6.5-280 RCBS

I had a 6.5-06, regular version, and the barrel was toasted after 1200 rounds. If you're going to run an AI I don't suspect you'll get much barrel life at all. Another thing people don't realize about the 6.5-06 is the OAL is very long for this cartridge. I never liked this at all.
