6.5-06 variants

First of all I apologize if this topic has been covered in a different thread, this is my first post.

I am interested in rechambering a .30-06 bolt action hunting rifle to 6.5-06. It will be used for mule deer out to 500-600 yards. What exact chamber is the best choice for case capacity, reliable feeding, and ease of forming from production brass. Please describe the advantages and disadvantages of the following:

6.5-06,17 degree shoulder?)
6.5-06 Ackley,40 degree)
6.5-06 A-Square,19 degree shoulder?)
6.5-280,17 degree long neck?)
6.5-280 Ackley,40 degree)
6.5-280 RCBS,30 degree?)
6.5 Hawk,no idea?)

I understand that the shoulder demensions and neck demensions on all of these are different. Which is best for case capacity and reliable feeding. Im sure the h2o capacity of all of these are within 1% of each other, tell me what you think.

Much Appreciated

I shoot a 6.5/06 in long range competition. Tell you the truth I use a standard chamber with know improvements.
Since this is a target rifle it has a 1/8 twist barrel for hunting you might want a 1/9 because of the choice in hunting bullet weights. All I do is neck up 25/06 brass to 264 load and shoot. By the way this is a fine cartridge and you will be very pleased with it.

Thanks for your responses.

I really like Barnes TSX bullets, I would shoot the 130 grain almost exclusively, but would want to be able to push 140 grain sierras sometimes.

I would like to keep reloading simple, as my close friend, retired gunsmith) will be doing my reloading, all I think I will need is a Hornady 6.5 creedmore die to achieve 6.5-280 RCBS.

I understand that the 6.5 creedmore has a 30 degree shoulder, could I use a 6.5 creedmore die to get 6.5-.280 RCBS?

Thanks Again

Joe

Just stick with a std. 6.5-06. It will make life much simpler for you an it will give you all you need to kill whatever it is you will be shooting with that size of bullet.

My soninlaw shoots a stock 280 Remington with 168 Bergers and is killing deer and antelope out to 600yds with no problems. All have been one shot kills. He has killed several elk with this rifle too. Its very impressive to say the least and its just a stock Remington 700 we glass bedded into a McMillan stock with some trigger work. It will put 3 shots into a paper plate at 600yds everyday of the week.

I have a 6.5-06JME. So far the measurments seem to match the 6.5-06Ackley. If anyone has info about the JME let me know. I am working on fireforming brass and working up loads. My advice would be to stick with the straight up 6.5-06 or 6.5-284 so you wont have to mess around with fire forming. Also loading data for the Ackley version is hard to find.
