6.5-06 Ack Imp with RL 26

Re: 6.5-06 Ack Imp with new powders

Seymour and Maverick

What has been your results with RL 26?

I have some being shipped now.

Re: 6.5-06 Ack Imp with new powders

I shoot a 6.5-06 Baer (35* shoulder ) shortened a few hairs. I use RL22 out of a 30" HV barrel and the gun is extremely accurate with Bob C.'s 141's doing 3150. This is a 1000yd BR gun..........

Re: 6.5-06 Ack Imp with new powders

Anyone have specific results on RL26?

I am not interested in other powders at this time as I have good info.

I used 56.0gr to get 3070fps, 57gr to get 3090fps, and 57.5gr to get 3105fps with 140 A-Max and Federal 210 primers.
57.5gr gave me a .82" group, so I loaded up some more trials, but the weather turned bad. I'll be waiting for an improvement with several bullets and loads with more powder. I hope it changes on the right days before Spring, so I can be ready to use #26 before the first event.
Have fun,
Gene

Isn't it fun when you get 2 pages of replies that don't really come close to answering your question?

I'd assume your 6.5-06 AI is approaching the case volume of my 6.5 RSAUM. If I remember right in a velocity/pressure test I pushed coated 140 hunting VLDs to a little over 3200 fps with 62 gr of RL26 without pressure. Work up as necessary but this powder is a velocity monster in everything I've tried. Haven't worked with it enough to determine temp sensitivity.

Ok, here are the results for RL 26 with Berger 130 hunting bullet set at COAL 3.300 which is max mag length.

No accuracy testing just for velocity and pressure signs with 2 rounds at each load level over Oehler 35 and 4 ft spacing on screens. However, entire 18 rounds went into 1.5 inches at 100. That was surprising.

56.0 3047 fps
56.5 3063
57.0 3087
57.5 3126
58.0 3142
58.5 3172
59.0 3197
59.5 3227
60.0 3286

NO pressure signs anywhere and I was hoping to hit 3200 fps so will load test starting at 59.0 from here.

I apologize in advance for reopening an old thread. I just loaded up 4 rounds formy 6.5-06 AI with RL 26. 54, 54.5, 55, 55.5. The 55 had slight pressure signs and the 55.5 blew the primer and nearly separated the entire case head. Next 5 rounds at 54 and the first one split the case head nearly all the way around.
Help

First off is your brass full formed?
What brass are you using?
How far you bumping your shoulders?
Bullet?
Primer?
Etc.
I have great success with H1000 and 140 Bergers in 2- 6.5x06AI

In my 6.5-06 AI, I've run 56.5 gr. RL-26 behind a Berger 144 for 3130 FPS out of a 30" barrel with no pressure signs. Using .30-06 Lapua brass with necks turned, 210M primers and this was at a 1000 yd. match, shooting 20 shot strings where the barrel gets hot. Sounds like something else going on besides just the amount of powder.
