6-284 Loads

I have a 6-284 with a 30 inch barrel and 1-12 twist want to shoot 75-90gr bullets any load info. would be very helpful

ryan,Loads for the 6mm ackley improved would be a good place to start. sierra has loads for 6mm AI. hope this helps. treeman

Hi Ryan.

I had a 6mm/284 a few years back, built on a trued Remington 700 action with a Pac Nor Super Match fluted stainless barrel. My barrel also just happened to be 30 inches in length, but was a 10 twist.

My favorite load was the 87gr v-max with 56.8 grs H1000.I was getting just under 3600fps with 1/4 moa at 100 yards when I did my part. I shot this load at 200 yards one day off my bipod and managed a 3 shot group of just over 1/2 an inch. So its an accurate load.

I sold the barrel to one of your fellow countrymen, but before I did I checked the throat. I had shot 552 rounds down that barrel, I always kept a record of how many i had fired. I was surprised to see no firecracking or erosion. Incidently, the longest shot I made was at 732 yards on a Hare on a mates farm. The 87's are great long range varmint projectiles.

The guy I sold the barrel to was shooting 70gr Speer TNT's at a little over 4100 fps. He was getting groups in the mid .2s at 100 yards. He didn't supply me with any load data, I could find out for you if you like. He said that load literally vaporized any varmint it hit.

87 grain V-Max with 56 grains of H4831SC in a 27-inch, 12-twist barrel equals about 3580 FPS at 500 feet sea level. Has killed prairie dogs out to 1,020 yards.
