6mm-284 load suggestions

Ok guys, just got a 6-284 on a Mauser action. 24" barrel and previous owner was shooting 90gr bullets. Don't know twist but may try 95gr bullets and see what happens. I've got H4350, IMR4350, IMR7828. Any suggestions for loads or bullet recommendations much appreciated.
TIA

You dog you!! I'm still waiting on my 6-284 build. I'm going to start with 105 gr. Berger Hybrids and V-Max bullets with RE 22 and H-1000. I will have an 1.8 twist. From what I have read those 2 powders are much preferred for the 6-284.

If you gone to hodgdons website they show load data for their powders for this round. I have one myself and have never got it to shoot well. But watch your loads when you start to get torwards the max and above. Mine started sticking cases. You can also try H4831SC, Hybrid100v as well. When it did group if you can call it that it was hybrid100v.
I think the problem with mine is the barrel. Its a factory 6mm rugar m77 reamed to 6/284. So I'm not sure if I'm gonna keep 6/284 or change to something else in short action.

Why don't you just measure the twist yourself? Regards JCS

You really need to find out what twist it is before you select a bullet. If the twist isn't fast enough you will waste a lot of time, money and barrel life trying to get the wrong bullet shooting. Matt

OK..... Looks like my gun has an 11 twist. Will this stabilize a 95 Berger hunting VLD? Looks like still marginal @ best for 87gr Berger.

berger site sez 8 is needed. might get by w/ 9 twist w/ enough velocity.
80g is all my 12 wil do @3100fps.
11 should do the 88g flat base varmint even though berger sez 10 is needed
vld's are boatail and harder to stabilize per weight
you never know til u try

I have 12 twists in my 6-284's and Hornadys 87 v-max and Bergers 88 LDs are the bullets the rifles like best.

I have 7 RUM and I suggest you load like I do. Load up on barrels! When I send a rifle to the smith I send 2 barrels at the same time, and have him thread , chamber and crown them both at the same time. Anything that preforms is going to be rough on barrels, don't settle for mediocrity.

That depends how you shoot it. Should get 1500 easy out of a untra mag. That's a lot of rounds out of a hunting rifle

I shoot a 6mm wildcat which is ballistical pretty close. I use N570 with 105 grain bullets. I'm going to try some RL-33 for a cold weather test. <40°.
For a varmit load I think the 60 grain Chaos with a.290 G1, it might be the best bullet out there. Stack it on some IMR 7828 SSC and push it out the barrel (28") @ 4100 fps might be awesome. I have some Chaos on order. Hehe

The guys I know don't get many rounds out of theirs either. In fact a guy I shoot with called me yesterday and told me he looked in his 7 Ultra and the throat is gone. He asked if he could put a 338 Ultra on it. When ever you dump big amounts of slower burning powders down a little hole, it is hard on throats. Matt
