6-284 1-12' loads

I have been here in front of this computer for almost 6 hrs. I must say what a wealth of information, Thanks.

I have been reloading metallic cartridges for over 20 yrs. and damn I feel like a beginner when I look around here, This is truly wonderful.

Ok work at hand

6-284 1-12" twist 22" Bbl. what am I gonna do with this?

I picked it up used do not know history but the throat and bore look great, I may be wrong but we'll see I guess

I want it for a short hunting,varmints/predetor and Antelope) rifle for my Son who is small to say the least.

What can we look at for loads for weight/twist I'll assume 85Gr. will be max weight.

I figure with the short barrel life and price of bullets I should fire off rounds with some fairly wise decision of components.

what have those of you with experiance with this cal. twist got for advice?

Thanks in advance

Mike

I strongly second this inquire.
I have a 6mm 285 1-12 24 "
Anyone have any ballistic and load data
Assuming 55 gr to 85 gr bullet
Your impute is also most graciously appreciated

Your barrel will stabilize 90 grainers. Remember that the original 244 Remington was released with a 1-12" twist. Factory loads at the time were 75 and 90 grains. Now if you're using really long VLD type bullets, you might have to resort to slightly lighter bullets. I know from first-hand experience that a 1-12" twist will stabilize an 87 grain V-Max in a 6XC, so a 6-284 should be capable of all that and maybe a little more.

Try aprox 54.5,MAX!!!!!) of H-4350 with a 90 gr bullet...,,or 59,,max load also)gr of H-4831...I think the 4350 wuld be better in your short,22") bbl....this shuld be great for vermin and antelope/deer....Roger
