6-250 ACKLEY,LIKE TO KNOW IF ANY ONE HAS BUILT ONE OF THESE? HOW ACCURATE IS IT, AND HOW CLOSE DOES IT COME TO THE 6XC IN PERFORMANCE? I HAVE A 22-250 A 250-3000 SO I HAVE PLENTY OF BRASS.I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF IT IS WORTH THE TROUBLE AND $$$?

The 6x250 AI is but one of a slew of 48mm long wildcats that have been used in the last 10 to 15 years. Ballistically, they are all identical, or nearly so. The only thing that keeps many of them going is the fact that guys have invested a lot of $$ in them.

The new 47mm Scandinavian cartridges and cases have made wildcats of that type pretty much dinosauers.

But, don't let me stop you. Wildcatting is always fun, usually interesting, and sometimes productive.

I guess you misunderstood me about the $$$.

All rifles cost the same. What I meant was that if you have money invested in reamers, barrels, dies, brass, etc etc you are not going to abandon the cartridge as long as it shoots. If not for that, some of those 48mm cartridges would not still be around. I know. I have one.

The ballistics of the various cartridges are the same. One is not more accurate than another. All of them are capable of winning long range matches.

If you want a 6 XC go for it. If you want a 6x250 Ackley, go for that one. The only difference is the shoulder angle.

The big advantage that the two 47mm cartridges offer is good brass, right out of the box. The 6 XC brass is good but may need some work. Brass for the 6x250 is also good if you do the necessary sorting and prep work.

It's your money. Your choice. But don't expect one particular case or cartridge to be better than another.

THANK YOU FOR ANSWERING MY QUESTIONS ON THE 6MM'S THE REASON FOR THE 6-250 AI IS I HAVE PLENTY OF 22-250 BRASS. I WAS AFRAID IT WOULDN'T BE AS ACCURATE AS THE 6XC, BUT WE WILL SEE WHAT A GOOD PAC-NOR BARREL WILL DO. THANKS AGAIN

I have built 2 6x22-250AI rifles, both shoot extremely well.
The most expensive part was having to have a reamer made for it.
The seating die is easily made from a 22x250AI die,non-custom item), and drilling out the neck with a 7mm bit. Since the die is not hardened, it is no problem.
So far I have made all my brass from Norma and Winchester 22x250, but will be trying some Norma 6XC.
The main rifle was used to win the North Dakota Regional F Class Long Range Championship this year, all 1000 yds, with one string a 196-4x, on the F-Class target, in the famous North Dakota winds, fired by a Lady shooter with relatively limited experience!
So far the best load has been H-4350 behind a Molyed 108 gr Berger.
My bbl has only a 1:8 twist. I will be looking at the 111 gr DTAC bullet as soon as time and weather permits.
The bbl is a Kreiger.

I bought an AR-10 upper in 6/22-250, a HighPower 28" Hart barrel.

The tapered case on the .22-250 meant magazine wouldn't stack more than 5, since there is no curvature to the magazine design of the 10. Had a .22-250AI reamer...

Basically this is a .001" longer case body than the XC. Body loses its taper and gains some capacity.

I use a .22-250 Redding Type S FL Ackley Improved die for sizing with correct bushing,.263?), and had Forster send me a 6XC body for my .243 Competition Seating die. The FL die reforms to Ackley dimensions and the Type S die is open at the shoulder enough so the 6mm neck is correct. Also have competition shellholder set #1 from Redding if I want to jack with that variable.

Not much need to buy Special order die set.

If I ever cut the barrel back to about 22" I might just use this upper. 1:8.5 twist barrel. Too ungainly for field use, too fine a barrel to sit. Bought an AR-10 A2 upper receiver with sights/carry handle. With Tompkins globe sight, should be interesting this Summer.
