6 - 06 Is there a better choice?

I have acquired a new 6-06 bbl in a gun deal. It is new, SS, fluted with integral muzzle brake, about 32 inches long. Its chambered with a .265 neck.

Unfortunately its threaded for an action I don't have. I don't know what exactly tho. Its a cone faced breech but is too small for a Win. Its also just a bit too small in diam for a Rem 700.

Rather than buy another action,if I knew which?) I would like to install it on a Rem 721 action I have. The obvious problem is the need to set it back and re chamber. Since I don't have the 6-06 reamer I am interested in other options for re chambering the barrel that would utilize the length of the barrel best.

I'm open to suggestions folks. Please lend me some wisdom.

Id dump that integral brake and thread one of these on:

or harrel makes a similar brake listed in the gear section

Both mentioned are only 30$

Well that just goes to show you to double check everything! While at the shop preparing to rethread the bbl, I just couldn't get past the thread and shank size as being wrong. SOOooo I took out another pre 64 action I had and tried it in that one.

Went in like it should. Tried it in the first again and it was tighter than a bankers wallet! Appears I just had a case of tolerance differences causing me grief. Save me a bunch of grief too!

Must have been having a real bad day when I tried it earlier. Chased the threads in the action I wanted to use and threaded it all the way in and snugged it up. I must be living right these days as the headspace was spot on. hehehe. I love it when a rifle comes together!

if you 6.06 is new and if you need to rethread so to recut the barrel thread, chamber set back ) best is as JB1000 say to use the 6 REM AI that real good cartridge and velocity will close of the 06 with a far better barrel life
