5r rifle barrel for 22 cal benchrest

anyone have experience with 5r benchrest at 100-200 yds. Good as conventional 4 grove?

What's your accuracy requirement and what bullets you shooting?

If bullets like 55gr and lighter.... I'd go with conventional 5 groove.

thanks. I shoot mostly 52 and 53 grain match. Have not seen any other shooters on the range using 5r barrels, so I was wondering.

If you where to ask me for a 5R rifled barrel with a 13.5 twist for a 6PPC gun… I will tell you I will not make it! Why because you are going to call and complain that it won’t shoot any better than upper .2xxs to flat .3xxs. Been there and done that with guys. In 6mm it’s worse with the short jacket/light bullets and it’s worse with boat tail bullets. Now if you are shooting 105gr 107gr 6mm bullets 5R all the way.

I apply this same logic to the shorter jacket/light weight 224cal bullets.

Conventional 5 groove or 4 groove barrel is what I would shoot then but I’ll take the conventional 5 groove over the 4 or 6 groove. Still more forgiving with the 5 groove in my opinion especially with what I’ve learned/seen over the last few years from ammo/bullet testing that has been done.
