Thought I would report back on some of my testing of the 58gr V-Max. I will start by saying I can never achieve the velocities that most seem to be able to reach. I don't know if it is the altitude, the humidity, or some other combo.
All of my testing has been with Remington 7 1/2 primers and with the bullet .015 into the lands. This is a 10 twist Schnieder barrel at 22 inches.
While not being specific on the loads or the outcomes, I have tried the following powders: AA 2015; Ramshot TAC; Benchmark; H-322; H-4895; H-335; AA 2230; VV N-135; and Alliant 10X. I know there are others worthy of trying, but I don't have them, lol...
Most of the powders were used at near their maximums and produced average velocities in the mid 3300's. To break over the 3400 mark, it was obtained with TAC, 2230, N-135, 335, and 10x. ,Based on book, internet, ect., I figured Benchmark would be the cats azz)
The two powders which gave the most speed and accuracy, which seemed to come in paralell with this gun, were H-335 and 10X.
The Alliant 10X appears to be the overall winner. Using 31.0gr produced an average speed of 3512 fps, shot a bughole group, and slowed no real signs of pressure.
32.5gr on H-335 averaged 3430 fps and shot a good group, but not as good as the 10X. The H-335 also had alot of muzzle flash. This load showed very slight sign of pressure.
Now I might have to move up to a load for the 65gr V-Max and the 85gr Speer so I'll have a deadly combination to pick from depending which works best on the Yotes. Might have to try the Sierra 60gr that many talk of also. Thanks for all the input and help to everyone.......
