55gr. ballistic tips

I hunt chucks with the 6 BR using 55 gr Sierra Blitzkings. 32.5 grains of H 322 or 34 grins of Varget shoot into one hole and kill chucks out to as far as I can shoot where I hunt. 35 grains of win 748 also worked good but I hven't used it for several years. I like these combinations very well for PA chuck hunting.

My rifle has a 1 in 12 no turn neck barrel from PacNor on a 700 action set in an HS glass stock.

You can really "Smok'em with the 55's"!!!!

33.5g of H335 will give you 3800+, and after 100 rounds, remove the bolt and look down the barrel and be AMAZED!!!

You have to use a thick cup primer like a CCI-BR-4, 7 1/2, or a CCI450.

Don't be surprised if 33.5 is not a max load, because the 26" 6 BRs are known to get over 3800+ with the 55's with 1/4" accuracy.

I used to make a 55g MEF on a J-4 jacket that would make ground squirrels just disappear. A crow or a magpie would be a PUFF of feathers as their buddy would fly around to see what just happened to the guy that was just sitting next to them!!

Want to see something wild, wait till a ground squirrel or P. dog turns with his butt facing you, shoot him square in the A$$.
He will look as if someone stuck a bottle rocket up is A$$ the way he takes off to the sky!

I converted to the 55's in my 243AI @ 4300fps. WOW! Talk about displays on prairie dogs! Shoot them in the butt or head when they bend over and there is only vapor and small pieces. It is an experience in itself to see. Even at 500 yards plus they blow up sometimes whirling intestines 20 feet up and out. Funny!

Keith...

I have gotten 3650 fps with Hornady 58's and H-322,32grs) and B'Mark,33grs), with no signs of pressure, out of a 24" barrel,14" twist). Both loads are 1/2gr below max in my rifle.

I just tried 50 of the 58's that were left over from another project, and got two groups in the high 1's  so I'm gonna try another box.

I had been mostly shooting 65 V-Maxs with this rifle, but when I ran the ballistics and drop, there is hardly any practical difference between the 58's and the 65's. I'm getting 3500 with the 65gr V-Max's.

I've been shooting the 55 grn Blitzking in my .243 Win with 51.0 grns of H414 and Fed match primers. This load with shoot in the one very easy, I have shot a 3" group at 500 yards. This is from a 20" barrel. I am waiting on a chrono to check velocity. These little bullets are devastating on CNY wood chucks and coyotes.

I've shot mostly 55BT and Blitzking through mine. With Reloder 7 best accuracy is at 3706 and 3780.....another 1/2gr gets 3832 but accuracy drops off some.

The absolute best powder in this rifle is AA2230 and it's unbelievable. Depending on whether it's a 55BT, BK, or 58VMax, best accuracy starts around 3777 and ends at 3919.

With AA2230, accuracy with 65gr. bullets is 3675 to 3710.

Barrel is 24" Hart 14" twist, no freebore, BR4 / Rem 7-1/2 primer. Bullets usually .005" off lands.

Would these work in a 1/8 twist 6BR without coming apart? I didn't do well shooting PD's with the 105's or the 87's. I need something flatter shooting for next time. My 204's worked great.

Jimmy

good question. i'm waiting on my 8 twist krieger for my 6br build. planning on shooting 87's and up, but might shoot the lighter guys too.

I loaded up some Nosler 55BT's with H322 and had good accuracy at 31.7 and 32.2 grains. This was with a 26 inch 1/8 twist Shilen barreled Dtech AR. I will reload with these same loads and see if they are still accurate. They chronoed at almost 3600 FPS.

I don’t shoot the 243AI much anymore. The cleaning and cooling off time restricts accuracy and shooting time. I use my 22-250 AI and 20 cal BR without any down time while shooting prairie dogs in the heat or high volume shooting.

Here is 6bt and lt32 with 55 Nosler Varmeggeddons zero freebore jammed 20. Never really hit hard bolt. Stopped at nearly 4000.

I would be happy to shoot the 32.9 load. Never did a seating depth test. Alex Wheeler said hard jam them so I did. 13.5 twist Kreiger.

If someone wants to send me 8 lbs of h335 I will test it :)

It's been noted or said here a few times.....but it really is very hard to improve on a slow twist, zero freebore 6BR for varmints.

I've had better accuracy with 58's then 55's, shooting them through a 24" barrel achieving 3750fps with no pressure signs is very easy. RL-7, H335, N133, 2015 and AA2230 are some great powders for light bullets in a 6BR.

On another note, regarding accuracy you'd be surprised at the natural level of shot after shot going through the same tiny little hole. I must have chambered 8-12 barrels in 6BR zero freebore slow twist configuration.....with a little load developement you quickly forget about your other varmint rifles, shooting one tight group after another after another does that to a fella......just saying.

Still love my .223AI zero freebore as well .........and my Swift too.....but.

I'm thinking I'll order my 35 thou freebore 6bra reamer this week. I mean... That's going to be over 4000 fps... That is better than my 22-250 ever did.

Heck I think I'll just go zero. I wouldn't be able to shoot 80 grain Bergers but I could shoot the Barts Dominator boat tail.

I have a 4 groove 1:12 twist Bartlein out right now being chambered in 0 freebore 6 BRA. I don’t plan on shooting anything heavier than 75 grain. Can’t wait to start working up some loads.
