Had my first outing with my new load..
I've never shot light bullets for cal before in any centfire. I have always been an amax and ablr kinda guy.
First off. Wow these bullets are accurate over 30 rounds of load development saw all groups sub 1" at 100 settling on a stout charge of 414 producing slightly over .25" at 100
I've got em running at about 3400 out if my 16" 243 win.
After a day out stalking for roe deer and no success. Did not even see one. Today was unusually hot for Scotland so suspect everything was laying low.
Anyway. On my way home I decided to stop in at a small farm ( we call them cofts) that I shoot pests on. This farm also happens to have a nice wee Caffe that serves good coffee. Whilst bleathering away to the owner she told me that the rabbits are still out in force even though I'd been hitting them hard.
I hung around untill closing time and the last of the customers had left as is standard for this property and i got to work making noise and rabbit chunks.
My closest shot was 44.7 yards and struck him in the atlas joint completely removing the head the middle shots were both at 211 and one hit high shoulder neck junction leaving the head attacked but vaporised the virtabray of the neck and the other was a raking shot pretty much pulled the insides outside.
The farthest two sat at 319 and both text book heart and lung.
What impressed me was that the bullets seemed to have delivered all there energy and expanded completely and violently within very small and soft targets.
I was trying to get on a pair at 416 but they kept shifting before I could range dial and get on target so I could not make it happen.
So today was a day of firsts and a day of learning. Scottish deer don't like the heat. Scottish game keepers like the heat even less and the 243 is a very effective rabbit slayer with the appropriate ammunition.
