55 gr blitzking shortie 243.

Had my first outing with my new load..
I've never shot light bullets for cal before in any centfire. I have always been an amax and ablr kinda guy.

First off. Wow these bullets are accurate over 30 rounds of load development saw all groups sub 1" at 100 settling on a stout charge of 414 producing slightly over .25" at 100

I've got em running at about 3400 out if my 16" 243 win.

After a day out stalking for roe deer and no success. Did not even see one. Today was unusually hot for Scotland so suspect everything was laying low.

Anyway. On my way home I decided to stop in at a small farm ( we call them cofts) that I shoot pests on. This farm also happens to have a nice wee Caffe that serves good coffee. Whilst bleathering away to the owner she told me that the rabbits are still out in force even though I'd been hitting them hard.

I hung around untill closing time and the last of the customers had left as is standard for this property and i got to work making noise and rabbit chunks.

My closest shot was 44.7 yards and struck him in the atlas joint completely removing the head the middle shots were both at 211 and one hit high shoulder neck junction leaving the head attacked but vaporised the virtabray of the neck and the other was a raking shot pretty much pulled the insides outside.

The farthest two sat at 319 and both text book heart and lung.

What impressed me was that the bullets seemed to have delivered all there energy and expanded completely and violently within very small and soft targets.

I was trying to get on a pair at 416 but they kept shifting before I could range dial and get on target so I could not make it happen.

So today was a day of firsts and a day of learning. Scottish deer don't like the heat. Scottish game keepers like the heat even less and the 243 is a very effective rabbit slayer with the appropriate ammunition.

Thanks for the good story and beautiful scenery.
Just came from a bankrupt gun store that was selling everything but firearms for 70 percent off. Had my mitts on some of the last bullets left, those 6mm 55 grain Blitzkings. I’m partial to the 70s as the lightest bullet I’ll shoot out of my 6mm and .243s, so I held off to think about it some more. Must have had a what we call a “senior moment” over here and remembered those SBKs when I got clear back home, regretting not grabbing some. Now I think a need a good stiff drink of Scotch whiskey.

I’d be too distracted by that beautiful scenery. Wow!

The V-Max is an amazing varmint bullet as well.
The picture is from my stalking outing. That mountain in the background is called suilven. It is iconic in Scotland. It is very steep sided and from the coast it looks like a Christmas pudding.
It really is beautiful here.

Not last night set up but here is a picture off the croft.

We call it the same thing here. Fortunately I'm still a spring chicken at 27.
I had never shot anything lighter that 100 out of my 243 so was really surprised at how well the 55 perform.

Hope the wisky went down well. Anything particularly nice? I have to admit I am very picky about my wiskys.

My first choose is Glenrothes select reserve. A bottle will last me best part of a year.

I shoot the 55 gr Blitzking Moly in my 6MM AI. I shot a 7 shot group at 127 yds at less than .250. And the faster I push them the better it shoots. I have a 1 - 13 1/2 twist and am going to have a 1 - 14 twist built.

They are the most accurate bullet I have shot.

Every 243 owner should try 60g Sierra hp, they are unreal accurate with Varget and Win 760. 58g V max, 55g Nosler ballistic tip, 55g Nosler Varm....all can shoot very, very tiny groups.

I have had several 243's with zero freebore on 13-14T Re chambered benchrest rifle barrels, glory....do they shoot small groups!

The same zero freebore chambers on a 12T shoots the 80g Sierra bt blitz into very, very tiny groups at 3500 fps with IMR 4064, fed 210's on 26" barrels.

I found that the 243 and the 6 Dashers(6 BRX) produce the same speed with the 55's, around 4100-4150 on 25-26" barrels, slow twist, zero freebore chambers. 6 BR's with zero freebore, 13-14T, 27" barrels do 3900 with 55g shooting tiny, tiny groups.

In the 6 AI with win 760 with a 26" barrel, accuracy node with the 60g Sierra was 4400 fps...chucks detonated.

We killed a LOT of coyotes with the 60g Sierra at 4000 fps in 6 Rem factory 700 varmint rifles, fur friendly also.
