52gn Speer garbage cans. Why the bad wrap?

From the threads I’ve read and posted on here, people seem to hate the Speer 52gn hollow point or have pretty good accuracy with them not much in between. I’ve just run about 500 through my howa 26in SS 223AI while fireforming with 27.4gns ADI 8208 and they have shit hot accuracy in my rifle, below shots were at about 185 & 225. I’m nearly sold on changing from my usual nosler 55gn BTs full stop. Anyone else have cracking accuracy or terrible with these?

Cool, glad they're working for you.
Had a bit of a play with them in my 223 Model 7 but 50gr BT's shot best.
We're using 75gr garbage cans in the sons 243 to good effect.

What are you using the 75grainers on?
Varminting and plinking and very effective on the wild Sulfur Crested cockatoo's out to 250yds.
We don't have lots, only a ~30# mob or 2 so just keep them down to manageable #'s for a little bit of peace and quiet. You know, we call them the rowdy Aussies and they're a damn nuisance for some of the orchard folk around here.

Black Hills had them in remanufactured 223, would buy a 1000 when in SD during the good old summer days prairie dogging. They will kill. Occasionally I would use in the 22-250@ 3600 muzzle, still good for coyote, for me the 300 yard + accuracy just didn't hold up for the 22-250.

I have shot them in .223 in bolt gun and AR platform and they shoot very good. I’m presently using them in the AR for coyotes but have been unable to go because of my wife’s surgeries. They will tear up a groundhog and red mist crows. In the 22/250 they shot good out to 300 yards. Never took them much past that, I mainly use the Nosler BT’s for the 22/250 because they shoot so good out of it. I believe you will like them, especially the price.

How do these compare to the 55 grain Speer soft points? Accuracy and terminal performance?

I use them in my 222 Rem, 223, 5.6x50R and 22-250 for coyote hunting, pretty much my favorite for coyote hunting seems to work perfectly in all the cartridges above, small hole in rarely an exit and usually DRT if I don't hit the edges, I buy them by the K.

I’m finding the same rarely exiting but getting good destruction inside even of 250-300 shots. I still haven’t had a really tough wind night with them yet or have them in a fully formed and filled to accuracy load of 223AI so that will be the test for me, if they can hold accuracy in 250-300 shots with a decent wind and the same hold over I’m not going back to nosler, not when the price difference is so big. I buy everything in 1000packs as I’m a commercial shooter it’s what I do for work. Big difference in price between the nosler and Speer. I’ve never seen the nosler shots that everyone talk about but I’m interested to see how they go too

Will have to revisit them again. Speer was the bullet of choice back in the when I got started. Went through all the color phases I could during my lifetime and it may be time to revisit some old friends.
