Got all my chores done and made it out tonight. Carried the 6X45AI again and had both the Sierra 80 gr. SBT's at 3130 fps and the Berger 80 gr. FB Varmints at 3121 fps after backing down 1/2 grain. I didn't like the bolt lift with the greater load. They both print to the same POI and the trajectory to 500 yards is the same. It made for a short range, 244 yards was the longest shot, comparison of terminal ballistics and the results were no decernible difference.
I walked just 50 yards from the truck and I see one standing on the edge of a bean field at a lasered 244 yards. I new that I would be low but not enough to really matter so I sent one from the standing position with the BogPod. The Bugger just looked at me! I glanced at the elevation turret and realized I didnt dial back down from 400 yards when shooting at the range earlier. Reloaded, dialed down 5 1/2 MOA and shot again. The "pop" was very audible from the Blitz at that range and I also had a visual for confirmation. I shrugged off the "duh" moment and walked several hundred yards and setup standing with the BogPod. Wasn't long I catch one at 191 yards and again the hit was heard from The Sierra . 15-20 minutes later I see one at 135 yards and this time I had a Berger in the chamber. Same "pop" and a smile from me. 1/2 hour or so goes by and one stands up 51 yards from me. He sees me trying to align but hangs around long enough to receive a Sierra and I get a salute from the south end. I waited a bit and remembered another chore so I wrap it up and go for photos. I just get done photographing and weighing the close one and I see one running at 100 yards. I expand the BogPod, send the Berger in the chamber and hear confirmation. The one I just weighed was 12.72 lbs and the one I just shot went 13.24 lbs.! Finished up with the others and returned home. Here's 26 lbs. of Groundhog, hungry anyone?
