Farmer called...

Got my juices going so heading out tomorrow for "First Day" of hog patrol for me. Early reports are encouraging. My hunting buddy says they're thick as thieves. With the new regs, the Ruger 10/17HM2 will be getting some action along with the Annie pistol. If we drift over in to the centerfire WMU, the 17 FB will send out a few 30 Kindler Golds at 'em.
Winds are forecast light so perfect day for the little pills.

One of my farmers discovered a groundhog had dug a hole in his pond dam. He was worried the the 'hog might dig thru (I doubt it) the dam and cause his pond to drain. I wanted to get a reasonable distance from his hole so I would be sure he would come out and not be spooked. So I found a spot 264 yards away. After about 2 hours, he finally appeared. Nailed him. While I was looking for another one to shoot, Mr Crow decided to snack on my kill. Needless to say, that didn't last long.
Pups should be out any day now.

First time out yesterday, tally was three for myself and one for my hunting buddy. Alfalfa, rye and wheat are way too high to see anything and just lucked out seeing a couple heads pop up in weed fields and this dummy out in an open field with a 17WSM. Should be a real frenzy with the families once the hay is mowed and the seeds start to sprout. 20180509_181438.jpg

I'm not hunting them too much - yet. But when I do, it's last year's soybeans.

Yessir, alfalfa etc is way too deep to see them. Farmers around here usually make their first cutting of hay/alfalfa around Memorial Day.

Triticale being mowed this week, hay next week. Whole fam damilies should be available for reload testing.

In the south, pups out, first mowing of hay happening, soybeans going in the ground. Gonna spend a bit of time this weekend cruising - we will see. Got a frog hunt planned for Saturday evening, if it pans out I'll post pics. Hmmmmmm - frog legs, House Autrey batter and peanut oil.
