5 round AICS patterned magazine

The factory 3rd ruger aics mags also hang under the gun about 3/4”. You may be able to buy the old style rotary type mag that came in the original black Americans and early predator rifles before they went to aics. Either would require you to call ruger and order the mag well. I converted my .223 predator gen1 from ar mags to aics and ran the ruger .223/.204 ruger 10rd aics mag.

KMcG,
The steel mags have much thinner walls so there is more space for the bullet tips.
The MDT mags I was referring to were plastic.
The plastic mags have wider walls to achieve the strength in the mag with plastic.

When I bought my 5 round steel mag, I couldn't find any steel MDT mags in 5 round capacity.

Don’t waste your money on primal rights kits.
They’re rough and may not even work with a Grendel.

Hawkins has a 3 rounder for their bottom metal. MDT has a 3 and 12 maybe a 5 also.

I have to disagree with avoiding the primal rights kit. It is rough, but it's solid and works well. Make sure you buy the magazine they require and you're good to go. Will they work in a Magpul mag? Of course not, you have to spend extra and get one of the two mags they recommend, and sometimes you need to tweak the feed lips a bit

I used the kit for a metal 6.8 and 224 five round magazine, Ultimate Reloader did a tutorial on how to do it and its worked very well.

Glad you got lucky. They never worked well for me. Would it feed? Sure. It just felt awful.

HAHAHA!! Yes it was rough, I had just assumed that was due to feed lip angle changes and broke out the file to soften the hard edges/change the angle and polished excessively with Flitz on my Dremel. I broke that magazine in on a Savage, which isn't the smoothest running action so I was more than happy with the results. Probably smoothed out the rough edges through use and now in any magwell it's one of my best feeding metal mags both in loading and in regards to not scratching brass.
