0C67592C-1957-4B20-8B80-9520941FF820.JPG Well I finally made it out for the first time in at least a month! Work, damned Trump, "honey do" list, weather and family stuff regulated me to some quick trips to the range to preserve the small amount of sanity I have left! It was hot, sweating in the shade hot, but it didn't stop them from eating. 1630-1900 hrs at a steady pace so I could not zero in on a perfect time. Although I have dialed in my AR, Mini 14 & 30 and 10/22 I grabbed the Bordon 6mm Dasher with 105 grain A-Max. Got the first one walking in at a whopping 46 yards. I had that field pretty well cleared and it looks like he migrated out from the tree line and cleared out a vacant hole. Sat down and got 4 more from 365, 310, 280 and 265 yards. Had a miss at 390 as it was partially obscured by grass and not knowing the distance between the grass and it made me wish I would have waited it out. One gets a little anxious after a long hiatus. This one was the 365 yard-er and came in at 13.02 lbs. and he had a beautiful coat. If I had the resources it would have made a great hat!

Nice shooting. I was out Wednesday and the weather was awful, 70's dewpoint and the bugs were really bad. The place I went to is a small farm, less than 100 arces and all the shots are under 200 yards. I don't like shooting ghogs under 100 yards but in some cases it's the only option at this place and everywhere else the hay is too high right now. I took my Model 7 Rem, 223 that I had rebarrelled last year with a 20", No. 2 contour, Douglas Supreme barrel. It's my short range (200 yard and under) stalker.

First one I saw was at 81 yards in high grass. I waited for him to stand, he did but all I could see was his head. I missed. :( Must have shot high because it didn't spook him. He continued to crawl around while I waited for a better profile shot. He came into a small clear area while crawling. Nail him. :)

An hour later and 20 more bugs bites I saw a big one, crawling out of the tree line at 99 yards. I nailed her, an old female. first shot kill. About twenty minutes later I saw one standing at the tree line checking things out. I nailed him at 92 yards, first shot kill. Didn't see anything the rest of the evening. Going back on Tuesday for round two. There are two really big holes in the tree line at 179 yards - those are the guys I really want to get a crack at. It's suppose to be less humid here in eastern PA next week. I hope so.

Up to 59 this year but it's been tough hunting with the weather so rainy. Got soaked a few weeks ago.

Plenty of bugs! I had Ben's 100% Deet on exposed skin and the same brand 0.5% Permethrin on my clothing and shoes. A caution with the Deet, don't use it around your eyes because sweat will carry it there...

Mr M, that is one fine looking G-hog. I, like a good groundhog, have been sub-terranean for days now...rewiring my basement. And I have conlcuded that my very existence is a miracle given the wiring I am replacing that my dad put in before I was born. OMG!!!! I did not know that one could use extension cord in so many unique ways! I cannot believe he lived thru some of the stuff I found.

So, thank you for the write up and the photos. I am trying not to become envious. In due time I shall return, but it looks like 2018...

Keep at it and keep posting .

I was being facetious
