5,56 Nato in .223 AI??

Hi I have a buddy who shoots 5.56 nato ammo in his .223 AI with match chamber with out any signs of pressure, only problem is it has a 1-12 inch twist. Do you think he will get problems if he change the barrel to 1-9 twist ?

Im about to build a .223 or .223AI with a 1-9 twist barrel, but I want to be able to shoot with the 5,56 nato for practice, as they are real easy to get and cheap. On the other hand I don´t want to sacrifice accuracy.
Is it possible that the .223AI is more forgiven with the 5,56 nato, than the standard .223 ?

No, I think it will work perfectly well, plus the faster twist will handle heavier bullets better than the 1:12".
