5,000 yd shot

But bottom line, hitting any target at 2.84 miles is impressive.
No, it isn't. It's just something jackasses do to impress, well, a certain kind of people I guess..
And before you suggest that I or anyone else should do it, you need to come up with a way to rationally describe accomplishment in 'hitting any target' -eventually.

If I glue a dime to a fence post, walk back 600yds, and shoot until hitting it, are you then going to believe my gun is so accurate, and my shooting skills are so good, that I shoot dimes at 600yds?
Or, would you ask me why I glued a dime to a fence post?
It's a test.

15,000 feet. Let's not forget that even seeing a 40" target at 15,000 feet deserves something too. 2.84 miles people.

Also...where does the "X" ring on a 1K target figure into this deal......the 40" , 5000 yard target is bigger than the 10 RING of a 1K target, let alone the "X" ring......7 inch ten ring x 5 (5000 yards) = 35 inches. And yes, I am pretty sure I can luck into the 10 ring on an IBS 1000 yard target with my "best rifle", also. In fact, you can pick out the WORST rifle in my stable.....and I would still be willing to wager!! ;)

What I want to know is.....what kind of a GROUP could he pull off at 5K? 5 CONSECUTIVE SHOTS. NO HELP...NO SPOTTERS. 6 min to "get on target" and let fly.

It's kind of like the analogy........put 1 trillion (or whatever the number) of chimps in front of 1 trillion typewriters, and, sooner or later....one of them will produce "War and Peace"...word for word.

Just stirring the pot, (except for the wager thing...that I"m serious about and would take bets in a heartbeat):D

Consider too, the area of that x-ring @ 35" is 962.1 sq inches, and the 40" sq steel has an area of 1600; more than 65% larger.

My club has a rule about the kd range: If you're not on paper by your 6th shot, you're done.
One 'X' ( 5" on a 1K F Class target) in 26, or 36 shots is something I'll throw in my lunch money on...wonder if I can I bring 'friends' to back for some of that, as well?

If you look at the size groups they shoot at 600 and compare to 1000, they get a lot bigger in that 400 yard difference. The farther out it gets the harder it is. If you look at the king of 2 mile. I believe this was the first year they hit a target at 3400. Matt

I'll tell you what, I would give them a 4moa target at this distance and two rounds of ammo per day. If they hit that target once a day for five out of ten days....then I'l be impressed. I hate that these types of stunts get any press at all in our community. Our game is repeatable precision fire. None of this ilk qualifies.

Not too bad of a shot. I bet almost all of those bullets would have hit a target if it was scaled up from a 1k target.

This shot is much farther than I shoot. The first time I shot one mile I did not hit the driver door of a van I was shooting at on the first few shots. Every round hit the van. Learning needed to occur and it did. Now I would not want to be a mile from me.

What everyone is not taking into account is it was done during load development and the target is not as spacious as what we use for 1K.

Our x ring is 3 inches. That orange dot looks as big as our ten ring. Matt
1000yd FC target shot at 1000yd range at Rattlesnake. The main challenge here is not the distance, it's the wind!a
The main point was that challenge of hitting the x ring at 1000yd. That usually is not a real challenge: the challenge is keeping them in the xring :)P

So, a 209.4" target?

Doesn't his 40" target work out to about 3/4 moa, .764 to be exact? Or, is my math all wocky jawed?

Yes, I was being derisive. Even with such a generous target, the prospect of achieving even the 25% hit ratio I described would be highly improbable IMHO. Precision fire is a first round hit, or failing that, a splash with a follow up hit. All else is harassment fire.
