460 sw bore diameter

Does anyone know why saami specs the bore for a 460S&W @ .444 when it's 45 cal pistol .451-.452.The pilot on the chamber reamer specs to the bigger diameter also.

.451 is the groove diameter. Bore is the the diameter across the lands.

The reamer you're referencing is probably for cylinders and not barrels.

Ah, I misinterpreted what you were asking.

It might just be a classic case of "my design is better than yours." It doesn't really make any sense.

The S&W Model 460XVR revolver features a specialized gain-twist (or progressive) rifling barrel, designed for extreme accuracy and high-velocity performance. This rifling starts with a slow twist rate and becomes faster towards the muzzle, which reduces initial pressure and stress on the bullet jacket while improving stabilization for long-range, high-energy shots.

The .444" land, does not cut as deep into the copper jacket. Keeps the bullet from failing.

Working pressure is 65,000 PSI
