460 Rowland???

I’m reloading a batch of 45ACP and I noticed the mouth flair on two cases was huge. I flip them around and read the base. 460 Rowland. I have never heard of it so I Googled it. Very interesting round. Has any one here owned one?

I'd like to shoot one first before shelling out for something I might not like and would have a hard time convincing someone they need it worse than I do. They have another cartridge called the 960 Rowland that looks interesting. A 9MM that is about as hot as a .357 Magnum, uses a 9X21 case if I remember right.

Been looking at as a bear country handgun. Factory loads can reach near 1000 ft-lb, where 10mm auto peaks around 750. Not sure I like the compensators or poly frame pistols in this cambering. That long slide 45 version looks pretty sweet, gives up a lot of capacity though.

22 years ago in 2000, I worked up a 460 Rowland load with 45acp brass for a 20 ounce Republic Arms Patriot $180 pistol. It was designed by Nehemiah Sirkis. The manual said no +P ammo, but the Republic Arms company [two guys in a biz park] was sponsoring me with free parts. The key, in the end, was building 42 pound recoil spring assembly.

For testing at 100 meters, I used a rifle. Best accuracy was with 230 gr FMJ.

I have a Glock 21 460R. I also have the factory 45ACP and a 10mm barrel for the G21.

My cousin has a Mec Tech PCC, uses a 1911 frame, in .460 Rowland. It really does a number on pumpkins and coconuts.

No longer have the 10mm barrel for the G21. TheGlockStore advertised it as a drop-in barrel but I found that the barrel hood was about 3mm narrower then the stock 45ACP and the 460R barrels. Lockup was good at the lug but that was way to much play in the hood. Returned it.
