45Lc heavy loads

Wanting to hear some accurate.45Lc Ruger Blackhawk loads with cast bullets thanks.steve

7.5 grains of Unique with a 250 RN on top of it duplicates the original Blackpowder load. Not super stout but heavy enough to make you appreciate what "them boys" shot in the day. Most of mine seem to be just shy of 900 fps.

I ran the 200 Meter Rams with a 300 grain Hardcast and H110 using my Bisley. The recoil at 1300 fps overcame the benefits of the Bisley Grip Frame. At about 1200 fps the recoil was aggressive but tolerable. For the Standard Keith Bullet I followed the Lyman manual and had great results with 2400 and Unique.

I use the same load Rebel gave, along with others. It's does well in all of my .45 colts, tame enough to be enjoyable. My Vaquero hits the three hundred yard gong 4 out of 6 each time I empty a cylinder, scoped. Lots of fun.

11.0 HS6 under 260-280 cast-good for about 1050fps, manageable power for most things four legged. Two holes is all you need.

I'll echo bobke about the HS6. Love the powder with the 45 Colt. On Linebaugh's website he mentions HS6 to a velocity level well below the H110/296 range for large game. I can understand needing the heavy's to run 1300 + to stop cars, shoot buffalo, knock steel down harder, and make it almost as bad from the back end as the front, but my enjoyment level ends somewhere around a 300 grain at 1050.

One of my favorites is an Accurate Molds 280 grain at 1050. Takes somewhere near 12.5 grains in my large frame Vaquero 5.5" to get there. I haven't shot a car or a buffalo, but I have knocked plenty of steel down. I will say that it kills the steel deader than lighter loads.

Some complain/find HS6 leaves a lot of unburned powder in the barrel when using it. If you find unburned powder, up your charge some. It will burn clean when it's in "tune" for lack of a better word.

I spent some time working over my Vaquero matching the bullet diameter to cylinder throats, so mine is very accurate. I do not cast a hard bullet though. I use 20/1 and I rarely see any leading.

Now for fire-breathing loads, it's H110/296 and Lil'Gun for me.

Have fun as it's a very good cartridge.

HS6, and 300 grain hard cast works well in all my 45 LC's....

I'm running 19.3 grains of h-110 behind an accurate molds 360 cast plain base out of my Williams shooters supply bisley

My 44mag load was 300gr hard cast moly coated Kieth profile bullets out of a Bisley Ruger Blackhawk. Using modern brass a 45lc can easily exceed my 44mag load with 325gr bullets. I was using 21gr of 2400, a stout load but one the Ruger can handle. I was good for 4 shots then recoil would get to me. My Cowboy (SASS) revolvers were all Bisley gripped but the loads were light, 7.2gr WW296 and 250gr flat nosed bullets. Should have said ww231 7.2gr.

Sure you're not referring to WW231, not 296, for your light load? That's a serious and potentially dangerous undercharge if 296 and subject to detonation. Would advise no one use that if 296, but is a good load if 231. Just trying to keep our fingers intact and where they belong.

By the way, Power Pistol does quite well in that very useful 1000-1100fps load range in 45 Colt. Perhaps a little cleaner than HS6, and an excellent mid range powder in magnum cases or if you happen to shoot full charge 9mm or 40cal and have it in your powder inventory.

WW 296 and Hodgdon H110 are meant for full power loads in strong guns. It is most accurate with very close to full loads. It is not the best powder for use with cast bullets. 2400 and H4227 are better powders to use for your cast loads. 2400 can be used with most weights but the H4227 should be used with heavier bullets.

Everything I've heard about 296 is you DO NOT use it for light loads...
My Casull sure likes it loaded hot...

I use it in my 357 Mag, 357 maximum, and my brothers 44 mag. My 45 Colt pistol won't handle the pressures so I use TiteGroup in it.

You are 100% right i shoud have said 231.
