45ACP bullets in a 45 long colt

I wish to try to reload the 45ACP home defense load the separates into four spinning sections 14" in diameter and connected by wire to each other. Made by Advanced Ballistics. Pricey but I think worth it if they work as advertised. Now for the question. Their 45 ACP is the same diameter as a 45 colt bullet. Have the same weights in either bullet and I want to shoot this in my Tarus Judge 45 long colt. Can I safely shoot the 45 acp bullet loaded for a 45 long colt round in the revolver?
Has anyone tried this?

Never seen tell of one them there bullets … If there’s no cannelure for crimping the thing to stay put, then probably best avoid the heavier of charges listed for that bullet weight.

Big can of worms

You may want to consider the Federal HST, they expanded to .820 for me in a 5 gallon water jug, with really good penetration also.

More recent production handguns have used .452" bores in both acp and Colt 45cal guns. Be sure by slugging your own barrel. Load a light powder charge and recover your bullet, none of the pounding a pig down the tube.

As you have asked about a specialty defense bullet intended for ACP in your Judge, probably be just fine. Undersizing might not get you all the velocity you want, but wont produce over-pressures. Might even improve the performance of your specialty slug which is intended to come apart...

By far the easiest way to get drug across the financial gates of hell is to shoot a bad guy with a reload.

The attorneys will work the jury into a lather against you for shooting their client with such ammo. Stay with factory loaded ammo and dodge this issue.

:)Travelor, Where I live there won't be any attorneys arguing if the perp is in my house cause we have the right to kill with whatever means if your home is violated. Except of course with an assault rifle bought after 2015.

45 ACP Multiple Impact Bullet

ONE SHOT STOPPING POWER: Compatible with 99.9% of existing guns this unique 4 part bullet has 3 ~55gr. outer fragments the instantly start to expand to 14” upon leaving the barrel of the gun and a .024 center slug projectile that travels down the center aim point. This 14” patented wide spread shot profile makes Mi4-Bullet the world’s first, true point and shoot ammunition! The patented design is being called “The World’s Best Tactical / Personal Defense Round”. This incredible one of a kind tethered bullet technology provides any shooter an unequaled opportunity for quicker target acquisition, first hit advantage, increased stopping power and reduced collateral damage risk. This is the bullet you shouldn’t be without when your life in on the line. "BECAUSE YOU CAN’T AFFORD TO MISS"! Made in the USA.
http://store.mibullet.com/45acpmultipleimpactbullet.aspx The 55gr fragments seem on the light side to me. Wonder what the main projectile weighs?? Not sure i like a instantly 14" spread. Should be ok to shoot them in a 45 lc.

Since I do not own a hand gun my two cents may turn out to be wooden but here it goes. I wonder if the cylinder gap would cause problems? Perhaps the projectile might want to expand as it jumps the gap and cause accuracy, pressure, or other problems.

in my experience many of the 45lc are .454 not .451 and may not like the difference.

Bob
Bob; both of my Ruger Blackhawk's bore size to .452 +/- .005". Pretty much the same as my (4) 45ACP's.

Pretty much a "red herring" any more. Plus if the shooting is declared a "good shooting/justified shooting" by the investigating authorities, the Lawyer for the perp is going to have a difficult time even taking the case. That is, if the Lawyer isn't Bloomberg's Lawyer.

Taurus Judge 45 long colt and .410

The Taurus Judge 45LC/410 does well with the Winchester PDX1 Defender Ammunition 410 Bore 3" 4 Disks over 1/3 oz BB Shot. I have seen them being fired with this ammo. But with a Muzzle Velocity of 750 fps, i will stick with my 38 spec. 2" http://www.midwayusa.com/s?userSearchQuery=Winchester+PDX1+++410 The good news is, the Judge holds 5 shots to get the job done. And you can mix the ammo = Winchester PDX1 Defender Ammunition Combo Pack 45 Colt (Long Colt) 225 Grain Bonded Jacketed Hollow Point and 410 Bore 2-1/2" 3 Disks over 1/4 oz BB Shot

I agree with you 243 winchester, I love the 2-1/2" home defense round with the copper plates. My thinking on this 10-14 inch spinning circle is that within 15 feed if you hit with any one of them the rest will collapse into the target like an octapus grabbing a victim. THAT would be followed by a 225 grain jacketed hollow point. I like the first round don't miss concept. I have shot tested the copper plates, #4, #6, and #7 shot .410 bird shots and am not totally impressed with any of them so far. Still trying to load a .410 with 8 pellets of #4 buck shot and get it in a four ten casing that will still shoot it and give me a good group. Getting close.

May want to check patterns of various 410 loads at the distances you may see in your house. They shoot like a rifle with poor ballistics and poor bullet performance

The Advanced Ballistics bullet will be able to expand in the long throat of the 410 chamber, i would guess. But the forcing cone should collect it after jumping the gap? I like the idea of #4 buck.

Bruce you may want to brush up on our New York State Law.....I've sat through Grand Jury Duty on a manslaughter case involving a home owner (Defendant) who shot and killed a drunk college kid who broke in and was fighting with the home owner. The home owner was tried and found guilty.....

Judge 410 shell came apart

Judge 410 shell came apart. See link.
I recently bought a Judge 3" blued. I shot two 2 1/2 inch 000 buck 410 shells. One of them came apart in the cylinder. There was only 1 1/2 inches of shell left. The other round had a distinct line in the same place but stayed intact. I can see a raised line in all five cylinders (I assume to make the .45 and .410 both function).
http://thefiringline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=478105 Something to watch for. I would guess, not normal.

I think a far simpler, and maybe more litigation-aware approach might be to load a 20ga rifled slug barrel with commercial 20ga buckshot loads.

Theoretically, the rifling should open up the pattern of the 22 or so count of #4 buck pellets significantly, possibly to or beyond 14". Think of it as a grapeshot load with 25 caliber grape. Each #4 buck pellet is in the 50-60gr weight range (I reckon...); it could be likened to a simultaneous mag dump from a 20rd AR Mag, just at a lower velocity, which may help with home-interior overpenetration. FYI, I have repeatedly read that the police use #4.

I have this recurring dream where I tested this concept at 15yd with a ceiling tile and a 20ga semi fitted with a rifled choke tube. The pattern was clearly larger than the ceiling tile; so I'm thinking it might expand to sweep a hallway. It might even pay to take a knee before firing, to present a better vertical trajectory orientation (and a smaller return target).

Another way to defur the same feline, but without any nefarious handicrafts involved.

I am recoil averse, as may also be the grand majority of the female persuasion; hence my concentration on the 20ga. Never underestimate the 20ga.

This is all, BTW, theoretical conjecture...

I have no designated or configured defensive weapons in my home, just some conventional sporting firearms and an active imagination...

BTW, I am currently about halfway through a two year plan to change my handle to JarheadTX

PS In which NY County was the homeowner convicted?

Hey Taildrag, My bet is the county that the conviction was in was at or below Albany, N.Y.. Owned, ruled and bought off by liberals. I am old enough now that I really do not give a damn if they want to "convict" me for protecting my own property. And, I live well out of their way!
