450's in the 30br

i've been wondering if any has tried cci 450 primer in the 30 br using 118 -125 bullets

i hear its the only way to go in 6x47L an was thinking of trying in the 30br if it sounds favorable ??

thanks in advance

I only use CCI 450's in my 30BR rifle, they worked so well I never ever tried any different primers. Your mention of the 6.5x47L makes me wonder what are you going to be shooting the 30BR for?

Roland..
thanks... on the 450 comment... i'm working on 6X47L now but have had a 30br for awhile using only
7 1/2 rem primers.... thinking if the cci 450's work well in the 30 i would order twice the amount i'd need for starters

Rich, I came about my 30BR kinda by blind luck. I bought a Point Blank benchrest rifle just for the Farley action it had. It was a switch barrel rifle chambered for 30BR and also with a 6PPC barrel. My plans were to make it for F-Class and long range Benchrest. At the same time I had another rifle being built in 6 Dasher on a drop port Defiance action.

The Farley action was going to be for a 6.5X47L, and is that way today. I had the 6PPC chambered with the same reamer as the dasher and use it today as a dedicated 6 Dasher fire-forming barrel. The 30BR with its great barrel life I kept just for the trigger time on my match rifle platform the Farley.

When I first started with the 30BR I used CCI450 primers and H4198 powder. This turned into a great little rifle with that load. I have shot it a couple of times with 125Grn bullets in a 500 yard club shoot. In a windy day it is a chore that's for sure at that distance, but I have manged to win a match or two with it. Out of pure desperation it will teach about shooting a bullet with a BC of around 200 + a little bit in the wind.

I have sense turned the Dasher/ Defiance Action, into a switch barrel rifle as well. One of those barrels is also in 30Br. I really like this little cartridge and will never be without one......

almost as you did i bought .. i need a stock for project an bought HS stock with a Rem. action an 6mm br short 1-14 tw barrel attached Lol's.. which turned out to be a pretty good shooter 1-200yrds, wound up using a 40X target stock in the end an swapped barrels a made the 30br 25" 17tw HB ... thats how that started Hmm

i got caught up with the idea in the 6X47L when i ran in into a very nice bunch of equipment .. so i broke down a Rem.pss .223 bought lijia barrel an one pc bolt from ptg which is still in the works... its a long story there my wife need a hip job an was chief cook an bottle washer.................... :(

move the 6br barrel once to many times 'now' it doesn't fit eigther set-up, thinking down the road [next yr.] either 22br or a dasher ??? as a switch hitter also
who knows though

Rich, I personally don't feel that you would go wrong with either the 22BR or the Dasher, DEPENDING on their intended use.

As to your 6.5x47L, you are going to be thrilled with this cartridge. It is just too easy, easy to load for, easy and pleasant to shot, and accuracy wise it will do anything you want it too. I am a big advocate for this cartridge. As I stated i built the Farley into my F-Class rifle. It has a Broughton 1/8 twist 30 barrel, I have 817 bullets down the barrel. In F-Class I shot very fast and the barrel does get very hot, so I had a Kreiger 1/8 twist 1.250 straight barrel chambered for it as well. This way I don't loose any time when the Broughton goes south.

Good Luck with your projects, and I hope your better half is doing well.....
