450 Bushmaster 16 or 22 and recoil with and wo muzzle break

Well for hunting most of the new

For hunting most of the 450 guns by ruger have a 16.5" barrel and they are 2200 fps with factory ammo.

So handloading might give 2350? I guess adding a longer barrel does not yield much more velocity like on smaller calibers. What fps are you getting?
Update after some load development. I’ll be more like 2475-2500 FPS with the load I’m settling with. 250 FTX over 40.1 grains lil gun.

So there is quite a bit of room left in the hornady 250 rounds to over charge it? How does one know what his particular gun can handle? Maybe mine would blow up at higher pressures.

I did shoot mine with and without the muzzle brake. I can tell you its not nearly as loud without the break on and I can't really tell much in terms of recoil. Its like shooting a 4/10 or maybe a 20 gauge with bird shot. I think the muzzle brake on the 450 is more for looks as the recoil is pretty mild vs a shot gun.

This is the exact reason I bought my Henry in 357mag, shoots pretty accurate out to a hundred beyond that i'm gonna need a scope. Most are less than 75 yds. anyway.

Pretty sure the brake is a must and definitely suppresses recoil tremendously. I know guys that bought barrels for Savage actions and shoot them at 22" without brakes. Those barrels are heavy barrels and the recoil is still about equal to a 16 gauge shotgun. Not something I'd want to shoot over and over at the range.

I bought the gun and shot it with and without the muzzle brake. Its not needed at all, just a cosmetic addition, they even include a swap in thread protector. It feels about the same recoil with or without it. Great gun shoots under 1" at 100 yards.

Meaning overcharge by Hornady reloading manual max charge? Yea. 450bushmaster.com has a thread about the RAR and a fairly common load for it is 40 grain lil gun with the 250 FTX. I’d def start at 37.5-38 grain lil gun and work up to make sure you don’t get any pressure sign before you get to that point.

While I am not a 450 BM fan, in the realm of what is available left hand, the Ruger scout is high on my list. I held off for a while because of price. I finally went with the longer 308 barrel.
Nice, very, very, nice. Took a little polishing to clean it up though.

Yea I agree its a little pricey compared to the American or the Savage 110 450. But it does have a nice bolt and seems well constructed. I've never shot it past 100 yards at the range but took two bucks this year with it. One at 150 yards and the other at 185 yards.

I don't have much a choice in my area. Shotguns, muzzle loaders or recently made legal the 450 BM.

I might have got the .308 but its not legal for deer where I hunt.

450 BM in an AR upper seems to be all the rage across the Midwest and Great Lakes where SWC, shotgun and muzzleloader are the name of the game. Pop it on for hunting pop it off and stick something else on top for whatever the occasion. Win win.
