.45 acp die?

I have a Dillon 550 with Dillon dies. Been thinking of buying Redding or Mighty armory instead. Dillon dies tend to make a ugly round at times with light rings on the bullet and that odd Dillon shape. Any suggestions between the two? I do like Redding because of the micrometer but have heard great things about Mighty Armory.

LOVE my mighty armory dies. Wayne makes great dies. I'm running his Gold 45acp sizing die, expander die, seating die and taper crimp on my 650.

I have lots of MA dies on my 2 1050s and 650s. Love them

Sizing dies are carbide requiring no lube? How do you like the crimp die? Can you make adjustments to seating depth without resetting seat die?

You may wish to try the Redding NX gen Pro dies with the solid carbide die. They are supposed to restore the original taper back to the cartridge. Redding also has an older dual carbide ring die that works well. The new Pro series dies are packaged like the Dillon dies, sizer, seater and crimper. Use the powder funnel to open the case mouth. I like the one set I have, and if buying new would certainly consider these in place of the Dillon dies.

Ive loaded probably half a million rounds with Dillion carbide dies, they’ve produced 10 ring @ 50 yds accuracy and they’re very easy to clean.

Off-topic, but this comes up occasionally:

Dillon's carbide rifle dies do NOT mean you don't need to lube cases. The rifle dies are for die longevity, and require cases to be lubed, unlike carbide pistol dies.

I've seen a blown M1A magazine and 2 others' days cut short from non-lubed cases in Dillon carbide dies.

The belled opening at the bottom of the Dillon dies are great for indexing perfectly every time. In the thousands of rounds loaded on my 550, zero issues whatsoever. Tried RCBS pistol dies when I first got my Dillon many years ago because I already had them......worked like chit, went with Dillon dies, problem solved.

My comment was about pistol cartridges, 45acp, 9mm, 38spl. I always tumbled the brass - dirty brass will scratch dies which then scratches brass. I also lubed the clean brass with Hornady one shot, light spray and tumbled in a cardboard box.

I don't understand this. Can you explain?

Still off-topic:

Guys sized brass with a carbide rifle die, no lube. Case was not sized completely (as the brass essentially stuck in the die short of a complete stroke), causing (2 instances of) non-chambering ammo. One instance of firing out of battery, blowing out the bottom of the case head, and destroying the magazine. The latter guy completed the deal a week or two later, and blew the rest of the rifle apart (over pressure situation. User error. He had also been warned he was overpressure, but wouldn't listen.)
