45 acp die on .2 line 6br?

Stupid question - Have I read that using a regular 45acp die will work to resize a 6br at .2 line? Doesn't seem right to me. How about a 30 06 or a 308?

The datum for the 6BR (CIP standard) is offset from the case head by 0.152” (not 0.200” like cited for many SAMMI standards). The case diameter is specified to be .4708”/.4709” at the 0.152” offset. The chamber diameter is specified to be 0.4720”.

Whether a .45ACP die will size correctly at the 0.152” datum is unknown to me. Why not obtain a caliber specific die for the 6BR to size the entire case in one operation? If the chamber is undersized, there are shops that make custom dies based on cases fired in the chamber. Harrell’s is highly recommended.

Cortina makes a nice mandrel die that sizes the base as well.

I see that measurement referred to as the.2 . .152 is nice to know. I do have a Harrell's die but I'm getting bolt click after a lot of firings on this brass. I just found this last night and have a shoot tomorrow night So as a last minute thing I resized with a 30 06 die, that seemed to reduce the measurement .001 Compared to the Harrell;s. It looks like it's time to buy some new brass.

I have used a small base .308 3006 and a 45 acp die’s to achieve resizing at the .200 line so I got rid of clickers but yes the only real fix is new brass

Look up the CIP standard cited in the upper right corner of the JGS reamer print revision block. I would post my copy, but it is marked “not for distribution/reproduction.”

It appears that domestic reamer manufacturers have adopted the SAMMI 0.200” offset when preparing their drawings.

I've used a .308 small base die to get a bit of squeeze on the lower body of a stock 6BR case. I'd guess that a standard .308 die would work as well. The extra length on 308 would ensure that your shoulders are unmolested.

I suspect you'd have a couple of problems with 45 ACP: The case head is not identical (I think 45 is a tad smaller?), and the 45 die recess will likely be too short for the 6BR case.
